Eastern Washington and Bogdan Bliznyuk, probably the best individual player in the Big Sky, visit Reed Gym tonight as the Bengals bid farewell to four seniors. Bliznyuk needs four points tonight to become the fifth Big Sky player to score 2000 points in his career. If he matches his Big Sky average of 22 points over the Eagles last four guaranteed games, he’ll finish second to Orlando Lightfoot of Idaho as the league’s all-time leading scorer. If the Eagles advance beyond the Big Sky quarterfinals, or if he goes off for another 40-point effort like he did vs Sac State earlier this year, Bliznyuk could pass Lightfoot.
Bliznyuk is an excellent all-around player with a triple-double to his credit, and he’s averaging 6.7 rebounds and almost 4 assists a game. He’s also hit his last 65 straight free throws.
The Bengals say goodbye to Geno Luzcando, Kyle Ingram, Erik Nakken and Hayes Garrity tonight. ISU must win tonight or be officially eliminated from the opportunity to reach the league’s top four and get a first round bye. ISU is in sixth, two games back of fourth-place EWU with three games to play. If the Bengals win, if would give them victories over the Nos. 2-3-4 teams in the league, with a shot at No. 1 Montana next week.
