Talked to a buddy who lives in Spokane. He heard there is a good chance that Baldwin will leave after this season. Some of interest includes PAC 10 schools. His EWU contract is up on Jan 4, 2010 and his base salary at EWU is $100,000. A far cry from for comparison the $600,000 Wulff makes at WSU.

Really hope this isn't true and that Coach B will stick around for another couple of years. We got a great thing going!

Where's the opening in the Pac10 gonna be outside an OC position? He'll be a commodity after this season, but he can really pad his resume with what we have back next year. I'm also guessing he's smart enough to be selective. He might be able to get a Wyoming type job after this season, but a upper tier MWC or PAC 10 type job if we make another deep run next year.

Egriz posts that start with a buddy of mine heard are a dime a dozen.

I have to agree. Next year I'll be really concerned, if we do as well as anticipated. Besides, if his contract jan 4th 2010, who was coaching all this year?!?!? Maybe they meant 2011, but either way, if that's the case, who is going to coach the title game on Jan 7th?!?

Totally agree. There's no Pac-10 HC jobs out there, even at WSU with Wulff getting extended. Even though a typical Pac-10 OC probably makes more than most FCS coaches, when you look at the big picture, would it really make sense for Coach B to go that route after only three seasons as a head coach at this level and with the program on a major upward swing? This team will compete for a Big Sky title again next year and has all the tools to make another deep playoff run. The more regional and national attention he gets as a Head Coach, the better he is going to look down the road.

Look at how long Hauck was as Montana, and the resume he built there. I mean, how long was he there, 9 years? And even after taking his team to the NC game three times, he ended up going to UNLV. Granted, it is a MWC school, but not exactly the most glamorous FBS HC position.

I have no doubts that Coach Baldwin is going to end up as a head coach at an FBS school in the no so distant future - that said, I think he's also smart enough to realize that it's not always about the money. Another couple years at Eastern with a known product could really improve his head coaching resume, vice going somewhere else which will be a huge unknown. 2-3 more years of making it to the playoffs, and I could see him being a very hot commodity as an FBS HC prosepct, even at the Pac-10 level.

a couple of coaches have been fired at UCLA but boy i would think Baldwin would stick around for a little while. the grass isn't always greener on the other side!

Ok, so, more rumors again. I usually hate dealing in these things, but this one seems at least somewhat legit. The latest is that Renard may declare for the draft this year, depending on what sort of grade he receives from the advisory board. Man, I was really hoping to watch him for another year, so for selfish reasons alone I hope that he'll stick around and help us win ANOTHER National CHampionship. Word is he's waiting until the coaches get back from recruiting until he makes he decision. Please Renard, stay - your stock will only go up with another year of domination!

Hopefully this is just a rumor or Renard decides to come back. He definitely has the ability to play in the NFL, but I think another year at Eastern would do him wonders, can you imagine how tough he will be to block next year? I guess we will find out soon enough as I believe the deadline to enter the draft is 1/15.

It's also been "heard" that Taiwan is thinking the same.

If we take a minute and take off our red-colored glasses I think we'd have to admit that neither is ready. Taiwan isn't strong enough to make it thru a whole season yet. He's got to show he can stay healthy. I'm not talking about showing toughness, he's shown that on occasion while playing with nagging injuries... I'm talking about showing he can make it through a season without constantly getting hurt.

Renard, well, let's just say he doesn't give it his all, all the time. He takes a lot of plays off. Taps out more than anyone on the D as well. Does he bring it when he wants to or when it's on the line - yeah. That's not gonna impress the people that matter in the NFL.

Heck, these guys already would be trying to get in with one strike against them (competing at the FCS level). With injury and effort hanging over them I can't see this being a time for them to try and make it.

Next year, after a full effort, then we're talking!

Totally a rumor, but I also heard that Baldwin was interviewing at Wichita State.

IMHO, and I understand there's no certainties and the notion of striking when the iron is hot, but another year with everyone coming back would significantly raise the stock of all three.

Taiwan gains 20 lbs and proves he can go through a season injury free. Renard beefs up his stats as the young ends around him get more productive and he faces less double teams. Beau goes from a mid-major to OC at an elite program or HC at an established mid major powerhouse.

The chippy, cynical, Eagle in me says all three pounce and we're back to being the overachieving elite FCS program that everyone else rights off for insignificant.

Coach, Renard, and TJ will all be back next year. I totally understand all 3 of them looking at their options and if Renard or TJ know they will get drafted high, no one can blame them for entering the draft, and if Baldwin gets a great opportunity, you can't blame him as well. I have nothing but respect for all 3 and look forward to watching them have great careers, I just look forward to seeing them all again on the Red Turf next year more. I had a chance to talk to both TJ and Renard after the Villanova game and they are absolutely great guys, I wish them luck no matter what, I'm just a huge fan of both and want to see them in red again next year.

TJ will come back with a chip on his shoulder since he wasn't able to play on national TV against Villanova or Delaware, I expect a big, big year from him, and an injury free one at that.

Renard had a good year, but does tend to take some plays off, more often earlier in the season rather than late, but with our D'ends coming around, he should see less double teams and he will be an absolute monster next year.

Unless coach Baldwin gets a great opportunity, I don't see him leaving, and he can build his resume even more next year.

We will all know soon enough, but I expect all to be back.

Go Eags!

Ok, so I gotta admit. I suspected some humor in that one, but had to google it anyway. I honestly couldn't remember if they had a football team or not.

Next game is at UW, 16 starters return and we had more votes than UW in the AP final poll. Coach Baldwin and staff have done their job, now it is time for Eagle Nation to step up their support and help take this program to the next level. The players can't do any better than best in the nation but our facilities and game day experience need support. We should have 1000 EAA members before the Drive even starts. Contact the EWU Foundation or visit goeags.com and renew your EAA membership today. Support all the student-athletes at EWU by doing so.

Anyone else notice the junk at the bottom of the page encroaching on the last message in each thread? It's happened twice. I couldn't finish somebody's post because a Group On add was in the way. Mod?

Having a student on the periphery of the football program at EWU, it has been a real pleasure watching Baldwin coach this team, and it is nice to be told that the class act he displays on the field is the real deal. I would assume the AD knows what a jewel Beau is, and that everything possible is being done to compensate and retain him at Eastern. GO EAGS!

What is the cut-off date for players to declare, anyway?

I'll agree with the comments on both to an extent, although I don't think the injury to TJ can be attributed to toughness. Having a 300 lbs lineman step on your ankle when you're in full stride=bad luck. But I agree, I don't think he gets any kind of benefit by trying to come out early, especially with that injury. He'll be back next season.

A few places have RW projected as a 5th-6th rounder (if he came out), but I agree, another solid year would really increase his stock. And while I agree that his motor may have been sort of an issue the last two years, I think he made huge leaps in that regard this year. I watched him completely dominate two of the "elite" CAA offensive lines.

Since it's unofficial, I won't start a new thread, but SmallCollegeFootballFan (who's has NFL conncections) on cs.com has sources that tell him Taiwan will declare today after the NFL Draft Committee gave him a third round grade.

Now that I've given it some thought, I can see why he's going to do it. With a Championship in the bag he's basically trading a shot at the Payton and more injuries that would lower his draft status for a shot at millions. We all wish he'd stay but he really has nothing left to prove here.

If Taiwan receives a 3rd round grade, we can't blame him for going, no one should pass up that kind of money and I'm not sure how much of an improvement he would make in next years draft if he stays. Of course I really want him to stay and hope this stays unofficial, but I can see him going and understand why. I believe he has until tomorrow to make it official so we will see...

I'm not sure I buy it, and maybe I'm just being hopeful.

Here's what I'd be thinking if I was an NFL coach... Taiwan has world-beater speed and great field presence. BUT, he struggled to deal with the hitting at the FCS level. What happens when an Urlacher or Ray Lewis type guy lights him up?

Taiwan needs to add about 15 pounds to his frame and still maintain his burst. He simply isn't going to do that effectively in one offseason and be ready for NFL play. At best, he's a 5 touch player in the NFL right now and I don't think anyone will drop huge $$$ on a guy that is only going to play sporadically.

Since Kalm posted this morning, I looked into it, 3-4 sites are reporting Jones is entering the draft and he is a 3rd round projection and the #1 FCS prospect. I hope they are wrong and running with a rumor, but it doesn't look good...
