Another signing

I found this on the yahoo rivals site. Looks like we may have signed another big guy. Don't know much about him, but a quick search makes me think he may have some skill.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thank you,

Jason

Yes, it is accurate. Along with a post player and another swing/post player. I believe the announcement comes out tomorrow for these three signings.

Here is another link to a story about Zach Nelson.

Here is his bio that Cosumnes has posted:
Height: 6'9
Weight: 225
Position: Forward
Hometown: Las Vegas, NV
High School: Green Valley

Cosumnes: Josh has worked hard since last season on the court and in the weight room so we expect a great year from him. He is a much more confident player now and should be very productive this season.
HS/Club: Josh was a three year varsity player and was voted Most Improved two years in a row. His team made it to the Final Four for the State tournament in the 2006-07 season.
Personal
Parent(s): Susan
Favorite Food: chicken alfredo
Favorite Movie: "300"
Favorite Athlete: Dwight Howard
Goals: Josh’s major is psychology and he aspires to become a psychiatrist and complete medical school.

I think the number speak for themselves. He definitely needs to work on his free throw shooting. The most noticeable stat is probably his rebound numbers so it looks like he finds a way to get to the ball. I don't know the style of offense his team ran but his assists numbers are pretty low and scoring numbers aren't high enough to reflect that he was a dominant post player/shooter. My guess is he will be redshirting next season.

He looks decent from the stripe and looks like he might be ok cleaning up the glass. Again, assists and scoring is low. For some reason I would play Nelson over McCarver, maybe the hometown player could draw a few players, who knows. In the back of my mind I can't keep but thinking how a player with a decent amount of talent would land in a school located in Yuma, AZ. :|

Did Josh McCarver sign? Last I heard he signed a Letter of Intent (maybe he needs to pass a class or somethin). We need this guy. Sac State has NEVER had a post player to average 2 blocks a game. Without him, N'Diaye would only be better and it definitely changes the dynamics of how we play defense and run. We have NO post recruits which makes him all the more important. We need this guy.

I haven't seen anything official that McCarver has signed, but that is what an inside source has told me.
As far as "NO post recruits", I believe Katz was quoted in the Bee as saying Zach Nelson was their number 1 post player that they wanted, so apparently Katz thinks he can hold his own in the post.

Actually, I meant to say with McCarver N'Diaye would only be better...

That said, I'm going on record as saying I like the pieces Katz is putting together. With McCarver (if we get him), N'Diaye and Duro on the block, the athleticism of Nelson, Hesseldal and Dickson on the wing, if Jackson can defend at the 2 guard and Hoffman and Carbajal get buckets beyond the arc, that could be a descent squad. I think we're set at the point with Groom backing up Toles-Bey. I still think Proctor can get minutes and Lopez will have another year to develop.

We'll be more athletic than last year, have good size and quickness in the backcourt, cause some match up problems on the wing and hopefully be able to compete down low. I'm starting to like this team's potential and I'm gonna be optimistic about a conference post season run.

I agree with Willie. I like the players assembled so far also. I can't wait to see them in action.

As far as these guys holding their own in the post, from what I've heard Hesseldal, Nelson and Jackson are all very 'long" and athletic and they can play bigger than they might appear on paper. We have already seen that Dickson can help out inside as well and I have seen Jackson on many occasions and he is very long and athletic like Dickson.

I'd pay to sit in on some scrimmages. They should be intensely competitive! I'd like to see them bring it defensively starting in the weight room and really driving the message home in practice. I think this team can go hard to the boards on both ends and offensively getting to the foul line a lot. It looks like we can go 9, 10 deep any given night, going big or small. I'll stop there. Just haven't been this excited about hoops in a while. 15 and 15 would sure look nice.
