Any word on the new artificial surface

At least the new turf is mentioned somewhere. I like how the bulletin emphasized that the turf isn't being funded by the General Fund.

the field is completely dirt and much dirt has been brought in and leveled out. the rain seems to have obviously halted some work and according to the coaching staff the spring game will not be held on the game field because the project wont be done yet.

Thanks for the update g2ba.

Here is a link someone sent me today. Not sure of the validity but its something worth chewing on:

Someone should show this to the Lodi City Council. They're about to replace our grass with this trash.

Its a flawed study according to FieldTurf who had an independent study done by a professor at Montana State.

FieldTurf Duraspine PRO selected for Sacramento State University’s Hornet Stadium
Sacramento State University and FieldTurf have jointly announced today that the Hornets will be upgrading to the world’s most trusted brand of artificial turf in time for the 2010 season. Sacramento State University of the Big Sky conference in NCAA Division 1 football, becomes one of the first high profile schools to install the FieldTurf Duraspine PRO product that has proven to yield unmatched safety, performance, and durability characteristics.

“My team played on FieldTurf at Foothill College where I previously coached, as well as other opponents’ stadiums and I’ve always found it to be the best surface to play on,” stated Marshall Sperbeck, Head Football Coach at Sacramento State. “The product safety and track record is unsurpassed. At Sac State we could not gamble on a gimmick infill or a company without a long track record. We had one chance to get it right and that is why we chose the proven product FieldTurf.”

“We could not be more pleased that the Sacramento State Hornets have put their confidence in our product,” stated FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “Coach Sperbeck and his team can rest assured that they have the safest, highest performing and most durable artificial turf system in the world. Our new Duraspine PRO product will allow the Hornets to benefit from a more durable fiber that is also significantly softer than any other in the industry. Combined with our patented infill system’s renowned safety traits, players, coaches, and fans of the Sacramento State Hornets should be proud to know that Hornet Stadium is getting the absolute best in artificial turf innovation.”

The FieldTurf field paved the way for even more football at the stadium.

On March 3, 2010, the United Football League (UFL) declared that the California Redwoods were permanently relocating to Hornet Stadium for 2010, as part of a deal with Sacramento State University to make the FieldTurf field a reality.

Turf completion scheduled for May 21st. To bad it won't be done for spring scrimmages, but I guess we can't have everything. Great to see we'll have it this fall.

Thanks for the update HHD.

Anyone ever take photos of the installation? :?:

By the way, it looks like we are one of the first, if not the first, D1 university to have the new FieldTurf Duraspine Pro installed. FYI, the New England Patriots also just chose to install this new product from FieldTurf. Very cool!

I was driving past State on 50 the other day and noticed Hornet's field was green again. It looks like the turf has been installed. Does anyone have any pics?

i was able to go by recently and take a closer look. the turf is mostly in. they seem to be sowing or melting the pieces together as well as installing the school and conference logos. heard it should be done in the next two weeks

I stopped by the stadium today and was able to get up to the top of the home side and take some pics. They are from my phone and are not the best but you can see how it looks. I am glad to see the big 'S' in the middle of the field.

Below is a flickr link to the pics I took.

Welcome DurangoDAWG and great pics. That field looks awesome. The Well is really coming along too.

The field looks great! I am glad that they put the Sac State logo on and “Hornets” in the end zone rather than some generic Sacramento makings in deference to the Mountain Lions. Next year maybe the Mountain Lions can help upgrade the home bleachers and press box. I hope we can get as much out of them as possible before the UFL goes belly up!

I agree, GL. UOP had the Whiners for only a couple of years but got a new athletic facility out of them complete with department offices, player-only workout and training facilities, the whole bit. Why shouldn't the Mountain Lions do the same for Sac?
