Surprised this hasn't been posted yet. Saw the news on FB; he will retire on July 15, 2014. Hope whoever the new President is, s/he doesn't screw things up with Baldwin, Gateway, etc.

Thanks for everything you did for EWU, Rodolfo. :notworthy:

Guess we better be proactive here and start a list of "knock out" interview questions. If the Red Zone ain't happy, :lol: nobody is happy!

Interesting. I know he was probably the strongest advocate for the quarters to semesters switch. I wonder if Eastern will still pursue a semester system.

Best EWU President since George Frederickson, or maybe ever. He did a helluva job. Eastern finally got an identity under his leadership, instead of flopping about as half a campus and half of a commuter college.

I hope whoever succeeds him is as pro-athletic and Gateway as Dr. A was. More importantly I hope his health isn't the reason for his retirement.

Formereag,
I agree with you with you entirely. He is the "BEST" in my time affiliated with EWU. Always doing something for his University and personnel. Following Athletics, he and his wife always inviting personnel to their residence/Athletic Activities. He and his wife will be missed greatly. We still have both of them until July, lets enjoy both f them, and what they have done for all of us/University, and surroundings. Vic Wallace

A sad day indeed. Hopefully whoever they find to replace Dr. Arevalo will share the same vision for EWU and EWU Athletics and he did. He will be a hard act to follow.

Anybody else worried that this could spell doom for the Gateway and EWU athletics in general?
Depends if your glass is half full or half empty
Some smart guy said "Whether you say you can or you can not, you are right"

clawman,
I will with hold my opinions until after the New President arrives and get is feet on the ground. Did you receive my pm earlier about the feeding of the 23 Seniors? They will notify me when they are ready, with about a weeks notice. Vic

Hey Vic;
My point was positive thinking will prevail for positive results.
Anyone that knows the Gonzaga story knows that athletics was key in their path to success. Hopefully Eastern s success in athletics has had something to do with increased enrollment. I am not forming judgement or opinions only looking at the positive aspects of a strong athletic program. In this football crazy society we now live in, facilities are critical in continued success and growth of the University as a whole.

I believe that these days college athletics plays a big part in the college experience, both from the standpoint of playing, but more so from the fan's standpoint. Eastern has been putting an awesome product out there for the fans enjoyment and I think it is a definite draw to those who want to be a part of an exciting and successful program. It is part of the big picture, and football is the crown jewel at EWU. We are getting noticed and are no longer being taken for granted when anyone plays us. I feel that the gateway will happen, and I am hoping that it does by the fall of 2015, for selfish reasons, but eventually.

clawman,
I didn't mean anything negative, was just expressing how I feel. In the meantime I agree with everything you have stated. We have an "Outstanding Football Program" I am just like you are, hoping whomever comes in as our new President, are as interesting as President "A". He always talk when he see the Fans, Dr. "A" will be greatly missed. He is the "BEST PRESIDENT" we have had at EWU. When I started in 1974, We had President Frederickson. I will be retired from EWU 19 years August 31, and seen many more Presidents. Again he is the Best. Thanks for the pm, and you got yourself a deal. Vic Wallace

clawman,
Saw where a LB is coming in from California from high school. Kory Beckering, nothing but great words from people that have seen him play. This is an example of what you have stated, people are willing to take advantage of our Outstanding Football Program. Vic Wallace

To All,
Just received by email the change of NLI gathering. Have moved to Pond Orevlle Pavillion, North End of Casino. If you go in from the front by Vallet, turn right go north, end of corridor on your left before going out the door near the parking Garage Area. Don't know why the change at this late hour. Vic Wallace

To All,
Just counted the personnel attending NLI Feb 5th, are now up to 73 persons, maybe that is the purpose of the changed location from the Hotel. Vic Wallace

Good Morning Vic;
I don't believe you carry any negative thoughts, that is one of the thing I so admire about you. ;)
As far as Dr A., I doubt there are many Universities in the country that the President and his wife are sitting in the stands with all on the "common folk" at a sporting event. He has set the bar pretty high for his predecessor.
Just over a week to wait now to see the new class of "eaglets" :lol:

clawman,
Haven't seen your name on the NLI Luncheon. Maybe I overlooked it. The luncheon moved to Pond Oreville Pavillion on the North Side of the Hotel by the parking garage. We started off holding our luncheon in that room, they have sliding doors to make the room bigger. Looking forward to that day. As of yesterday, we had 73 persons on the luncheon list. I will put some fire under Steve Forgette, and Ashton Miller, so we can get the Seniors meal going before Feb. 10th. Hope I can succeed. :) Vic Wallace

clawman,
I did miss your name on the NLI Luncheon, like a (DH) :o was looking for clawman, not your name. The count is up one more to 74. Heading out today before the snow/rain to pay for both NLI Luncheon, and FB Banquet Feb 22nd @ 5 pm, in PUB Multipurpose Room. See you on Thursday MBB Game @ 6pm. Vic

A great memory I will always have is randomly encountering both Coach B and Dr. A on the field in Frisco after the NC game, and exchanging a handshake, congrats, and a smile with each of them. Very cool. Dr. Arevalos quick support of EWU athletics showed a real broad vision for the growth of the University. Kudos to him, and best wishes for the future.
