Hey EWU ticketman (and flagger extraordinaire) what is the official attendance YTD? How does that compare with previous years?
How about a full report??

My math sucks, but (approximately):
10,400 for MSU
7,400 for WSU
8,700 for UNC

I believe we'd be averaging 103% capactiy for the season. Pretty sure that'd be an all time record.

Relying on my feeble old memory, I think that is more than any of our playoff games last year.

According to the official listed attendance to the three games, we've averaged 8,864 people. Although for some reason they didn't appear to be counting students this last game. They were just sending students with ID through without swiping, so who knows how acurate this weeks attendence was. Either way, were still averaging more than a sell out...time for expansion? :)

Well done. We finally get our second home game this week. Through 1 home game, we are averaging 12.7k. :-P

considering Cheney only has 10.5k residents and Sacramento has 2.5 million, I think you should be the one that's embarrassed:) hahah only kidding of course!

Overall, not bad for the year so far. The Weber State game could have been better, but I guess starting the season at 0-4 will do that.

Getting the students out the the games is the key to good attendance, IMO and the fact that EWU has over 12,000 of them now is a good thing for the growth of the athletics dept, pending the AD has done a good job of promoting it to them. We had more students (almost 4,000) come out to the MSU game this season. That was more than last year's game against UM. Great to see all that red in the stands. :thumb:

Dave Cook did this up for his weekly release yesterday and said that I could share it with you.

We have sold out two games this season (9/24 MSU, 10/15 UNC) which is the first time ever selling out a game that is not against the University of Montana.

Our 10/1 game is not a bad crowd either. In fact, it's pretty good. It is typically the second/third game of the year and a noon game (Hall of Fame game, etc) and never draws a large crowd. This time, it did.

I hope that this garners perspective as to where we are/have been...

On Oct. 14, 1989, a crowd of 5,009 watched the first Eagles game played at Wood¬ward Field since Oct. 15, 1983, when Eastern hosted Montana Tech in the Eagles’ last game before moving to Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane.

Been to 20 of our 25 top attendance games at Roos/Woodward... 2004 was a great year to become an Eagle!

Also, only ever missed one home game, which was Weber in 2009. Good one to miss.

Video board first, then when the Inferno surface is ready to be replaced (probably not sooner), it's getting bowled.

As goes the tailgate lot, so goes the crowd in the stands. The larger our tailgate gets (more season tailgate passes sold), the more bleachers get filled by our fans.

Keep in mind at all of the figures from Montana vs. EWU games were at least a 70-30 split of UM fans to EWU fans (the exception perhaps being 2010 when we likely had a 60-40 UM-EWU split). In 2012, we may get a 70-30 split EWU-UM because of our season tickets sold each of the last two years (the levels in 2011 and 2010 prove that theory out that there may not be that much room for UM fans in 2012).

This is likely the first season where we have generally had all of our fans fill the stands at the games (Montana State brought about 1,200 total fans, but the rest was EWU fans and a massive student crowd). My theory is that we are seeing a direct result of a large tailgate population of season pass holders who are pushing friends and family to join them.

The Weber State crowd was very good and the Northern Colorado crowd filled everything. I did enjoy the complaints from our "alumni" over the past three home games (everybody upset that they couldn't just walk up and buy a ticket in the grandstand like they always do). The same comment from those day of game ticket buyers has been "why didn't anyone tell us that it might sell out?" My response: "Obviously, 8,000 people seemed to know about it and buy in advance." You never know and you can't please everybody.

I would expect that our tailgate experience will grow exponentially in 2012 and from there, who knows what possibilities in terms of improvements may await. You have to fill the stands consistently before anyone sees a need to improve them.

We have the best coaching staff in the Big Sky, I think we proved that last season. I'm not taking away anything from some of the great coaches and assistant coaches in our league but our guys do more with less, it is that simple. But I think we have the best ticket manager in FCS football. He hasn't worked a 40 hour week since he started, it isn't in his nature. He is very good at his job and he is also an alumnus so you can never question his loyalty to EWU. Since the day he took the job, he has made some amazing changes for athletics and we're lucky to have him. Go Eagles!

Well said... and very true.

It would be nice to see what our crew could do with equivalent facilities. How much better would we be if we could just be on par with the Montana State's of the world... let alone the Montana's.

:+1: Troy and the staff have done a fantastic job this year with the pregame atmosphere and bringing fans to the game and I only think it will get better over the next couple years.

Saw this editorial in the Cheney Free Press, thought I would share:

In Our Opinion: Tailgating at Eastern football adds to excitement

The buzz at Roos Field is growing, and it’s not just what’s in that plastic cup.

Food, friends, maybe a few beverages: the tailgating scene at Eagles football games has never been better.
While some folks don’t like the structured approach Eastern has taken to tailgating—with the designated lots, tickets and rules—it seems to be working well. There’s room to spread out and there are rules so that a few bad apples don’t end up spoiling everyone’s Saturday game day, at least most of the time.

Eastern has been selling tickets for tailgate spots for the past few years, but this year the spots are selling out. Of course that has a lot to do with last year’s football success. But the planning by Eastern athletic department staff has helped channel fan excitement in a way that we hope will keep that fire burning.

It’s always fun to watch your team win. But as history has shown us, Eastern fans get quiet or stop showing up altogether when the Eagles start to falter. That’s why fun events surrounding the athletic competitions are such a good idea. They keep people coming back, because win or lose, you know there’s a burger on the grill with your name on it.

There have been grumbles from some tailgaters about the rules in the “Eagle Village” tailgating lot behind Roos Field. But the rules are minimal and make sense. No open flames? Melted plastic tents and tarps, let alone endangering lives with fire, might put a damper on the festivities and would certainly give the “Inferno” a new meaning. Keep your alcohol in a plastic cup? This one seems like a no-brainer. It prevents the hazards of broken glass as well as the shame of being seen drinking cheap beer or, heaven forbid, a wine cooler.

The organization in the tailgating lot allows folks to focus on the important stuff, like having fun and getting pumped up for the game. It prevents headaches for fans and staff alike, and creates a higher-level football scene here in Cheney. With that, we’d like to give kudos to the masterminds behind the tailgating scene, as well as the boots on the ground on game days, who have a big job to do. It took some smart thinking and foresight to create this atmosphere.

Something is growing at Roos Field. It’s a sense of pride in the Eagles that we hope will transcend the wins and losses and spread throughout campus and the community.

Team spirit isn’t just about sports. It’s about feeling good about where you go to school, your alma mater, the university in your backyard. And when people feel that spirit, they’re more likely to get involved in making the university a better place, on the field and in the classroom.

The Eagles’ recent wins have only boosted the sense of excitement in the tailgating village and beyond. The only thing we could hope to improve upon is the number of home games on next year’s schedule.

So keep it up Eastern brass, Eastern fans and Eastern athletes. We hope this team spirit takes root and flourishes throughout the year. Now how many hardcore fans will be shoveling out tailgate spots for the upcoming basketball season?

Troy;
Did you write this??

I understand the ban on wood fires from a clean up standpoint, but looking down on all the fires and smoke from the water tower at dusk before the kickoff of the Nova game was really cool.

The atmosphere for that game was the best I've ever seen. ESPN might have had something to do with it though. :)
