Austin Apodaca Offer?

Rumor has it that former Washington State's Backup QB Austin Apodaca has been offered by the Bears. Can anybody out there confirm? :o

I always thought he was overrated coming out of high school. No thanks.

I would disagree. He was in a serious battle for the starting position at Washington State last year and played pretty well in his spot duty as the #2 QB last year. I would take a kid with PAC 12 experience like that any day. But I think the chances of this happening are probably about as close to zero as you can get.

303Bear..Are you doubting it will happen because you don't think he would accept an offer from UNC or because you doubt he has or will get an offer? I heard he may walk on at CSU...but wouldn't he have to sit out a year if he did that? If he wants to play now would he not be enticed to play at the FCS level this year?

I don't have any insight into it in any form, I just doubt he would be interested in an offer from UNC. As far as I know he is not a kid leaving an FBS program because he is buried deep on the depth chart. I am guessing he is leaving because he believes he should be starting and wants a shot to do that at another FBS program not an FCS program. QB transfers are becoming more and more common between programs despite the requirement to sit a year.

I haven't heard whether UNC has actually made an offer, but if they have I would bet that Boyer is falling all over himself trying to get Austin.

Personally, I would love to see him join the team.

Rumor has it that Austin and his dad were in attendance for practice on Saturday. After practice they were seen leaving with a large group of the coaching staff. Sounds like Collins, Boyer and crew are putting on the full court press.

Austin was apparently also in attendance for the first scrimmage of the spring at CSU on Sunday.

Could be tough winning that recruiting battle. Have to hope that the prospect of immediate playing time, instead of having to sit out another year, is a bigger incentive than playing at a small FBS school.

That's interesting. It could also mean how unsettled we are at QB. Depth is good, but it could mean Boyer and Collins have zero confidence in any of our current QB's.

Can somebody with some College Football insight please explain to me the strategy of Apodaca choosing Mesa community college? :dunce:

He's probably wanting another FBS offer. If he has a good season at Mesa, you never know.

Not all that surprising. By transferring to a JC he gets to play next season and then transfer to another FBS school without losing a year of eligibility. I am pretty sure UNC and other FCS schools would still welcome him with open arms If he doesn't garner more attention from FBS schools after the year at Mesa.
