If the Eagles finish out the season 5 and 2 and NAU goes 2 and 5 we're in!!!
No problem!!!

#1 Montana 19-1
#2 Weber 18-2
#3 North Dakota 10-10
#4 Eastern 10-10
#5 Northern Colorado 10-10
#6 Southern Utah 9-11
#7 Montana State 9-11
#8 Sac St 8-12
#9 NAU 8-12
#10 Portland St 6-14
#11 Idaho St 5-17

Nice win tonight. It looks like Hayford has FINALLY realized the importance of playing defense. Better late than never. I shudder to think what we'll look like next year when Forbes and Winford - the best/only two defenders are gone. Let me ask: does it really matter if the Big Sky has 6 or 8 or 10 teams in the tournament??? Beyond Montana and Weber, the conference is sooooo shitty that we should eliminate the charade, and just have those two teams have a one game playoff to see who goes to the Big Dance. In the unlikely event that somebody else wins the Big Sky tourney, we will be in the play-in game which will be a further embarassment to the conference. Like I said two months ago: our only salvation, and the only reason we will finish with a somewhat respectable record is that the Big Sky is one of the two or three worst conferences in D1. Five of our teams are in the bottom 25 (out of 347) of the RPI, and ALL of the teams in the conference except Weber and Montana are 250 or worse. The conference is the worst it has ever been and we are still gonna be on the outside looking in at the tourney. PATHETIC...

How many teams make the tourney these days? Is it still just 6?

My speculation after the loss in Portland leaves us in a 4 way tie @ 9-11. We will have split with each of the other 9-11 teams. What is the next tie-breaker?

New to the boards and am ready to talk hoops...

So everybody keeps talking about our great young talent... Other than Venky, who are we talking about? I've attended most of the games this season and am not seeing much.

Maybe you had your eyes closed?
Where do we start? There is so much new talent.
Jois has had a stellar year true but there are others...
Parker Kelly finished off last season well and continues to improve.
Martin Siefert is getting stronger and it shows.
Tyler Harvey stepped up when called on and is a very exiting player to watch.
Daniel Hill is settling after a year off and shows great promise.
Jorg is contributing well at practice sessions and will be a beast when ready.
Thomas Reuter is a great defender and gets the job done.
Danny Powell should be ready next season.
Chiverton, Winford, Forbes are class acts.
Can't you see the makings of a great team? I can :)
Go eags :thumb:

Eag-voice of reason welcome to the board. Not sure about your first post though. Are you blind? Seriously, we have unbelievable talent. Just been unlucky all season. If we can sneak in and get the 8th spot we have a chance to win the tournament I think. Try watching the next you go to a game instead of the cheerleaders.

Uh Hmm. Need to finish at least 7th to take part

OK, I am being lazy and haven't gone through the scenarios. Two questions for the more informed:

1) Can we still make the BSC Tourney?

2) Do we need to win out, or can we drop one game (Weber)?

Yes, the BSC is not very good in general.

But you're starting to see some of our talent show through. Looking forward, we have decent size with Seiferth and Jorg. Jois and Reuters are physical and play above their height. Harvey and Kelly are good sized guards tih scoring potential.

I think the three things we need most are:

1) Improved play at the point.

2) Some bigs that are more of a threat outside.

3) A scrapper that plays tough, physical defense, takes the charges, and basically does the grunt work. A Mike Hart from GU type player comes to mind but I prefer to keep it in the family and reminisce to a Brandon Merritt.
