Baldwin to Cal?

So, I see he's gone. But I didn't ascertain what Eastern said about the Head Coach role. Have they moved on Best? I'd have to assume it needs to be done within a day or two.

Chaves said there would be an expedited coaching search, but soon after noted Schmedding and Best were in the back and were excited about the opportunity. Don't know that it means anything. Sure would love to see Best elevated. I think that elevating one of the current assistants, and keeping most of the current coaches on staff are our best bet for retaining our recruits and maintaining a semblance of our current success.

Not sure why Cal was the right fit. Wilcox is a first time HC and the school is probably on the short list of "next up" for stupid SJW antics in athletics after Missouri and Minnesota the past two years. Just outside looking in. If he can make it work there, the world is his oyster. :-)
IMO this is a FAR better opportunity than Nevada. Rumor had it he did not get that job because he did not want to inherit the assts there. Wonder how many of the Eagle asst's we might lose?

Hopefully none, since Beau is not going to Cal as the HC. Not that he couldn't recommend some of the EWU asst's, but the new Cal HC will be the one ultimately responsible for assembling his coaching staff.

This is a slippery slope with co-head coaches because if you hire one and not the other you may lose another assistant before the beginning of next year. Which would mean you are looking for another coach.

Having a 2nd HC with Wilcox makes sense.

For Cal and Wilcox sure...

Saw this tweet, not sure how to embed it on here.

"With Beau Baldwin leaving for Cal, EWU will have co-interim head coaches with Run Game CO Aaron Best & DC Jeff Schmedding."

Happy for Beau and best case scenario for EWU in him taking OC job because he doesn't take all or most of EWU staff. There should be continuity with the program and great for the new guy to have a stud QB to keep things going for 2 more years while they get their feet under them.

More important now then ever that we get upgrades done on our stadium!!!!

Gotta say I am not exactly sad to see him go. He will do good and I wont be surprised to see him as a HC at a top FBS program in the future. EWU will be ok, you have a solid program and will get a good HC.

I heard Chaves say this and immediately jumped to conclusion that Best is not leaving. Probably the most at risk of leaving would be younger guys like Edwards or Butorac.

Who are the co-head coaches?

Chaves confirmed longtime offensive line coach Aaron Best and second-year Jeff Schmedding will serve as co-interim head coaches for the Eagles.

and the search will be a quick one.

Interim!

As much as I hate to hear this I am very happy for Beau, kind of bitter sweet. It appears he will at least double his "new" contract.

Good Luck Beau!!

Only double the new contract?? That's too bad because his living expenses probably tripled. All for the privilege of watching people defecate and vomit on the sidewalks while driving to campus.

And two weeks before signing day. At least the rest of the staff is still intact from what I am aware of. It would probably be worse for recruiting if Coach Baldwin was going to Cal as HC.

Quite the conundrum we have here. On the one hand you need to get a HC in place quickly. On the other hand being expedient can't come at the cost of doing a proper search.

Ultimately I think it will be an internal hire.
