Our women took George Fox to the cleaners tonight, 55-35, as they should have. VanBrocklin, Lanz, and Lampman led the way. Newcomer Misa did her job on the boards, pulling down 12 (she really has to work on her free throws; in the first game she hit 2-6, and tonight she was 0-4). Good to see Kate Lanz back. Returning from injury, she still managed 8 points with 9 rebounds and 2 assists. I hope her assists go up if she's going to play PG. Greene did a little better with 3, but no one stands out in that category. Can anyone take charge and hand out 5-6 assists?
It's down to earth next week - we play Oregon. Oh boy.

This is not much of an Oregon team this year. "The University of Oregon women’s basketball team lost to Saint Mary’s, 78-69, on Sunday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene. The Ducks, playing their regular-season opener, dropped to 0-1 with the loss. The Gaels improved to 1-1 overall on the year. " PSU should win this game if they get in the paint production to complement their guards usual scoring.

St. Mary's is a pretty good team this year. They lost by two points to Washington, and beat Oregon. We'll play Oregon close, but how close..... It's going to be another close season for the Big Sky this year.

PSU just beat Oregon in the second overtime, 87-85! VanBrocklin laid it in with one second to go. Waiting for stats.

This win probably warrants a separate thread! Nice job Viks!

Nice win for us.

Wow. That freshman for UO dropped in 38 and grabbed 27 boards?

I know! Unreal, huh? Great job by Van Brocklin.

Well, i was half right. I predicted the win but thought that PSU would be better in the paint. When is PSU going to find a post who can play defense? The team is just so guard oriented and one cannot expect such splendid performances by the backcourt in every game.

This is a long-standing argument, Oldtimer. It may have to do with Murrell's coaching style. Or not. There was someone here last year constantly harping about the misuse - or non-use - of Wade. Misa, our lead center this year, did pull down 8 rebounds in the twenty minutes she played, but she fouled out. Olden wasn't much better, with 4 fouls. But then, it was Oregon's home court. Misa shot no free throws, but in her first two games she missed them more often than not. Centers have to learn not to foul when they bang. And, of course, make the free throws. It's a whole different game, down in the paint.

Good 6'3"+ers are hard to recruit, when you're competing with Pac-12 etc.

We beat Corbin tonight, 67-52. It was an NAIA team and it would have been much worse, but our starters played roughly half the game and the bench the other half (including the freshmen). But we learned a lot. VanBrocklin, ourt primary shooter, played only 12 minutes but still had a team-high 17 points. She's for real. And for a change, Murrell played Brock ad Misa together; they responded with 10 and 12 rebounds and 6 and 11 points respectively. Points in the paint? 24 for them, 34 for us. No more talk about the tall ones! Kate Lanz is still learning to be a point guard. She played 26 long minutes, shot 0-8 and had a barely respectable 3 assists (two others had 3).

The team has a ways to go.
