Basketball assistant coaches

If any of you are interested Coach Hayford and some players will be at the EAA fundraising report meeting at the Northern Lights brewey Wednesday 6 pm. Maybe even his new coaches? He still has three days to make these choises public. How long does it take

FINAL 2011-12 BIG SKY MEN'S BASKETBALL STANDINGS

1. Weber State
2. Northern Arizona
3. Portland State
4. Sacramento State
5. Northern Colorado
6. Montana
7. Eastern Washington
8. Montana State
9. Idaho State

not a chance. Sac State will not finish that high, nor will Northern Colorado. They were good this year but lose a ton. I see it this way.

1. WSU
2. PSU
3. Montana
4. NAU
5. EWU
6. UNC
7. Sac State
8. MSU
9. ISU

You heard it here first!

ATTENTION EWU RANGER:

Just to set the record straight, while I do live in Portland and attend all Portland State games, I am a fan of all college basketball teams in the NW, including Eastern Washington, where I have strong ties.

And to further my comment above, any fan of Eastern Washington or Portland State, should be a fan of the other school, except obviously when they are playing each other, mainly because for the most part they are league travel buddies and you want each school softening up the next opponent.

A good team at Eastern Washington bodes well for a good team at Portland State. You might see it different, which I respect, but since I have scouted basketball for years on all three levels, I do know and understand the game.

Thank you

Fair one, I just thought you were a PSU fans since I saw that you post a lot on their board is all. No worries, and we do appreciate the discussion. :thumb:

Ron, you are the wise old eagle! The announcement finally came today just before tomorrows meeting. Pretty much the like your guys thought, Ehlo and Hayfords asst from Whitworth.

It was dialed from beginning. HR was only reason for delay. I think the university had to give the appearance of being an open search. The next two years will be good due to guards maturing. UNC lost a ton playing younger guys that were seniors this year and you see the results. I think Hayford is a good coach but recruiting will be tough for him and especially Ehlo. I hope I am wrong, pray that I am wrong, but I fear the team that Hayford is 100% inheriting will be his most athletic and successful. His greatest success will be his first year and then nothing. Look at Coach Ray at Utah. He brought talent in that was young. They lost. New coach comes in. Wins with Ray's kids. Loses once Ray's kids gone. Fired. If Hayford and Ehlo can recruit I will be wrong. I think the odds are against them though. We will have a very hard time getting the inner city athlete.

It is so refreshing to see the loyalty of Eagle fans and interest in the mbb program.

I personally do think Hayford will be successful, but a lot of respected basketball people are puzzled by his choice of assistant coaches, especially Mr. Ehlo. Kids today do not care if someone played in the NBA.

To 1990s point, if you want to win in the state of Washington, you better just put a lawn chair down in Puget Sound area and stay there.

For its size, it has more quality basketball players than anywhere in the country and it is getting even better.

Love reading all the comments and respect shown everyone.

I like the hiring of Hayford and his choice of assistants. Hayford can bring in local talent and he can win, he was great at Whitworth for 10 years, he wasn't just a one or two year hit, he won throughout his time there and I think he will do it at Eastern. Regardless of what some say or think, we have talent coming back next year and we should compete for the top spot in the big sky. We have talented guards who have been here for a couple years and athletic big men, that is the success for winning, especially in the big sky, plus some of the teams ahead of us this year lost a lot of talent.

I like Ehlo as a hire, he brings some name recognition, and hasn't had a chance to coach college kids to my knowledge. I like the entire staff and think they will do great things.

The eags have been towards the bottom of the league for many years and I think these changes will do the program wonders. I like the local hire, I like our team coming back, I think the basketball program is on its way up.
