A New Eagle in the Sky
SME Network Projects the Big Sky Conference

July 31, 2008

For over a decade it has been the Montana Grizzlies that have been the class of the Big Sky. This season will mark their biggest threat. Eastern Washington opened eyes in last years FCS Playoffs by taking out undefeated McNeese and taking App State to the wire. The Eagles are no longer a surprise, they are the favorite. QB Matt Nichols has his team primed for a conference title run and everyone in the league, if not the country, will keep their eyes peeled for the mid-season match-up that takes place on their home field.

Montana, as always, will be no slouch. The Grizzlies needed to fill some voids, but as they have proven in the past, they are never out of any race. Montana St and Northern Arizona will also be improved from last season. As usual the Big Sky will remain top heavy as the big boys will be swallowing the underdog’s whole. The Big Sky will again be a multi-bid league, but the real question will remain…Will Montana be dethroned? Our answer is yes.

Here is how the SME Network breaks down the Big Sky:

1 – Eastern Washington
2 – Montana
3 – Montana St
4 – Northern Arizona
5 – Portland St
6 – Weber St
7 – Sacramento St
8 – Idaho St
9 – Northern Colorado
