OGDEN, Utah -- Her Bears are en route to their third NCAA Volleyball Championship appearance in three seasons, so it comes as little surprise that Northern Colorado coach Lyndsey Benson has earned a second Big Sky Conference coaching honor in the same time period.

She was tabbed by the league Tuesday afternoon as the 2011 Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to this season's Big Sky regular-season title a couple weeks ago and the postseason title last Saturday in Portland, Ore.

The honor is the second for Benson, as she was also selected in a vote by her fellow conference coaches in 2009 – Northern Colorado's other NCAA Tournament season.

The Bears (22-8, 13-3 Big Sky) will face 10th-seeded Hawai'i at 10 p.m. (MT) Thursday at the Stan Sheriff Center in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. A win there would push them into a second-round matchup against either Oregon (21-9) or Colorado State (23-5).

The Rainbow Wahine (29-1) are ranked third in the latest AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll.

Northern Colorado and Benson, 121-89 with the Bears, entered last weekend's Big Sky Conference Volleyball Championship as the No. 1 seed and had a relatively easy time in dispatching fourth-seed Eastern Washington in the semifinals and second-seed Portland State in the final.
