Best Backfield In The Big Sky?

really??? well ok if oyu say so. cant wait to put 40 + on you in weber!!. LOL i hope

The only way we are going to find out who has the best backfield in the Sky is when the season gets going, right now who can tell.

mtgrizfankb are you coming to Ogden for the game?

you can never go wrong or be far off when saying UM has the best, deepest backfield overall. UM and EWU with their walter payton candidates are hard to beat. regardless you gotta say we are in the top 3 with them. we are at a disadvantage as we still do not know what to expect from bolen at this point where as ewu and um have well established seniors (i believe). bolen is also not starting the tailback at BC but he is starting on returns.

we may have a case at the end of the season if our preseason 1st team full back does what the sky is predicting and bolen can get 1,000 yds. i hope we can continue this argument in nov which would mean all 3 schools had a prosperous year with a healthy backfield!

Taiwan Jones' stat line from Thursday night vs an FBS defense -

12 carries for 145 yards, 2 receptions for 92 yards, 4 kick returns for 85 yards, 322 all-purpose yards, 17.9 yards per touch, and 1 touchdown reception.

Taiwan Jones was a man last night, How did WSU hold him to 64 yards in Cheney last year? Here's hoping he doesn't go crazy against us on Oct. 2nd

Not to make excuses because not much was mentioned and I didn't get to watch that game last year, but TJ was riddled with injuries throughout the season. Both shoulders, his hand, and a sports hernia. He played through them all, but perhaps he just had a bad game. It happens. Regardless, he was a man possessed last night. I hope he can keep that intensity up all season, if he does, he'll be a Payton finalist, if not winner for sure.

for a WSU fan it was an amazing game. it was just one of those games, it was ours no matter what and weren't gonna lose. probably our best or one of our top performances of the whole year. ewu had 35 total rushing yds; nichols was sacked 5 times; 4 of them by eastman. 5 ewu total to's; 3 picks, 4 fumbles (3 by nichols, 1 by TJ).

Speaking of, just saw this article that was published yesterday:
http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/rgj/access/2126038111.html?FMT=FT&FMTS=ABS:FT&fmac=da76613f3c3313bbd4d49c41aab6a013&date=Sep+1,+2010&author=Chris+Murray&desc=Pack+football:+Jones+key+to+Eastern+Washington's+bid+for+upset+on+Thursday
Eastern Washington running back Taiwan Jones averaged 7.5 yards per rush last year. He had six games in which he racked up at least 200 all-purpose yards. He had 10 plays of 50-plus yards and 21 plays of 30-plus yards.

And while those numbers are gaudy, this list might be even more impressive: severe stingers in both shoulders; two fractured toes; a broken hand; a sports hernia that required surgery.

Those were the injuries Jones played with in 2009. Despite the setbacks, Jones played in all 12 of the Eagles' games while piling up 2,345 all-purpose yards and 19 touchdowns.

"Last year, I was pretty messed up," Jones said on the eve of EWU's game against Nevada. "It was a pretty rough year, but I had to fight for my team and I had to give everything I had. The playoffs were coming up and I wasn't going to miss those."

Jones played hurt for EWU, and Eastman was coming off an injury 3 weeks prior in the Colorado State game. Trainers told Eastman he'd be out for 6 weeks he came back in 3 weeks. The ENTIRE team played well :) EWU Linebacker had 23+ tackles for the game (Sherritt?)

Eastman was awarded Big Sky Defensive Player of the week, but the ENTIRE Defense should have gotten the award. EWU were 16 point favorites, playing at home, BUT Weber State was able to prevail. It was a great game, and a great payback for 2008 in Ogden.

Well let's hope we can continue a trend of handing the home team a loss, at least for this year. :D
