We've beat you 10 of the last 11. We make the NCAA tourny. We win our conference. We have a better RPI than you. We have a better SOS than you. We sign higher rated players than you. We don't sign D2 transfers. The WAC is a higher rated conference than the Big Sky. Our coach trained your coach. Those are all facts, not opinion.
Weber fans really have no reason for criticizing a program that's so much better than their own other than jealousy. You're like the man with no legs who makes fun of the man who limps because of a sprained ankle. When you beat us a few times, when you win your conference and conference tourny on a regular basis, when you beat us for a recruit, when you make the NCAA tourny instead of sitting home watching, then your criticism has merit. Until then, it doesn't.
I'll give you this. Because we lose so much this year, you may beat us in Ogden next season. If you do, we all know it will be your biggest win of the season.
George, I will be the first to admit that USU's program has been at a higher level than Weber's for the past decade. Stew has done wonders up there. After the Cats, and I'll get a lot of crap for this, but I'm an Aggie. The purpose of this thread wasn't to disparage teams, it was an attempt to write an analysis, that will ultimately change with the addition and loss of players before next fall, about who has the best team AS OF NOW. Yes I have a slight bias towards Weber; however you don't know me, my family background, and where I got my education...how do you know that I don't support USU? I think you would be quite shocked.
Anyway, I stand by what I said. Weber, on paper, right now, has the best team coming back in the state. Why?? HELL, because we lost two players compared to USU losing 7 LETTERMEN and 4 Starters, the best 3pt shooter on the team, and the future QB of your team (Walker, yes and you know as well as I do, that he is a significant loss). Whereas, Weber loses a four year starter, who will be missed but replacable and a SR guard who, also, will be missed, but is being replaced by Lillard. Next, there were a lot of freshmen on Weber's team last year who got significant experience and proved that they could play at the DI level. Third our recruiting class was pretty dang good and Weber also has two redshirt bigs, one a DI transfer and another that Rahe said at times last season was the best big in practice.
As for USU...Pane is the only starter returning. How will Pane, a handful of unproven Red Shirts, backups, and JC transfers mix? I think USU will be fine next year. I'm sure that the Ag's will still win 20 games and in all likelihood the conference (with BSU, UN, and FSU leaving it becomes a bit easier to win the conference; I'm sorry San Antonio, Texas St., Denver, and possibly Lamar aren't the best additions...they don't exactly improve the WAC. Good heavens, Seattle would rather stay independent than join the WAC. I'm glad that the Sky is solid).
As for the other two. Utah, before all of the defections, was on paper, bringing back a team with talent and experience. There is still some talent on that team. LK wants O'Brien and Glover to stay, and they might in the long run, which will put Utah on a solid footing. I believe, even if Boylen had been allowed another year, that Utah would have been dangerous, now they have a better college coach. As for the Y...They lost three starters. Yeah, Davies is going to be back, but he isn't Jimmer. Over 50% of BYU's 2010-11 offensive production is gone. BYU has a handful of experienced bigs, but their recruiting class wasn't amazing. Yes they did get De'Marcus, but he is a freshmen, and he might redshirt and go on a mission.
