Nice article on Volek in the bee today..Clearly he wants to bring back some passion to the campus.

Good read. Thanks for posting.

I can respect history and Alums with myself being one but I do not understand why everyone is so fired up on Coach Volek

Career Record 31-57-1
When the hornets won the league championship it was a 4-6-1 season.
PAM spray incident
I am not sure of history at sierra but I am not going to give him credit for Tisdale's Wins.

Sears probably wouldn't be that far off with that career record if you gave him that much time.

SD...not a personal attack...I was just pointing out why your information is inaccurate and unreliable. Please try not to get too azz-hurt over me exposing you and telling the truth to people on this board.

Like the article about Coach V.

He was here back in the day when so many issues existed then and still exist.

He seems to be taking responsibility to getting things done with President Nelson.

So we will see.

I like the move and will be watching and looking forward to the ground braking of our Event Center that has been in the conversation for decades now.

And looking forward to Coach V doing what he can do to getting fans back to football games when he was here and our attendance was at its highest. It needs to get there again and then much more.

Coach V has nothing to lose as a retired state employee coming back to get things done. So we will see.

Best of luck to him

I would also remind you that Volek was 4-6-1 his first season, followed by 1-10, 1-10.

My biggest complaint with Volek is he never made staff changes to better his position. He had guys on staff that obviously were below their paygrade, but Volek kept them on staff, year after losing year.

He went down with the ship based on a culture of loyalty and not performance. He also had a bad temper, which exposed itself on the sidelines after a game where new Pres. Gonzo was attending. I think Gonzo saw that and made his decision to replace with that great Hornet HC: Moosesuckian.

Wasnt Colberg the AD or limpdick McElroy? Another leaderless level of ineptness.

OSH: Why are you so vile?

I dont think SDH has anybody fooled, or is he trying to fool anyone. Who cares that he presents info on this board which is something, anything, as the department is so hush-hush for fear of being held accountable.

I for one appreciate SDH's effort and feedback.

The fact that a warm body is here posting and showing interest in Hornet athletics is what is important. Who really gives a monkey's ass how much he gives?

Take a lesson, if you are going to donate, do it humbly. No need to chest beat.

Me butt hurt?

Nothing to be butt hurt about for someone in my position. However those that align with your “no resources”, small minded, can’t do, just happy to be here mentality have a lot to be butt hurt about. That mentality is why Hornet athletics is where it is today. Hornet athletics missed on a huge opportunity to move the bar following a pinnacle of achievement never before experienced…and that’s why Nelsen decided to find a new AD.

It’s an exciting time for Hornet athletics, new leadership means the possibility of shaking the stigma of suckitude that has engulfed this department for so many years. I’m looking forward to seeing new folks with new ideas come in and make whatever changes they deem necessary to improve the state of Hornet athletics.

Volek was tasked with transitioning FB to D1/BSC with a president (Gerth) who didn't give 2 shits about athletics. Of all the D1 years, those were the ones with the least resources, poorest facilities, and least administrative support. So Volek gets a bit of pass in my book for those horrid seasons...still doesn't excuse his Pam incident or the stuff GCM pointed out.

Fast forward 20 years and we have a coach that has never had more resources, more support, and decent facilities at his disposal only to completely squander them and produce next to nothing. Another embarrassing season and Moosh will be off the hook as worst D1 Hornet coach ever.

Notice on the Big Sky web site that EWU Coach Baldwin is leaving for a position at Cal. The Golden Bears just picked up a top notch coach. Can only imagine how much his salary has more than doubled and then some most likely.

EWU AD has so much talent on football staff that his biggest problems are keeping them ... Sac state AD will have to decide how many wins gets a NEW CONTRACT! What is the over/under?

cannot recall at this time what the win total was when Sac state last went to the post season in football back in 1988 but since that time I do believe 7 wins has been the top win total in the past 29 years.

8-3, 3yr. extension (shows he can recruit and build).
7-4, 1yr. extension (see above).
6-5, UCFE win, 1yr. extension.
5-6, new blood. Close this Sears store.

1. My concern(s) is the utter lack of defense, and that is supposed to be a Sears specialty. He recruits defense based on size of player. In the pass happy, mobile QB Big Sky, the Defense needs athleticism/speed over mountains of flesh.
2. Downward spiral in attendance. Not a direct HC responsibility, but winning cures all.......
3. No energy, excitement for a fan following a losing program.

After two 2-9 seasons with the "young team excuse" we deserve and should expect a winning season at the minimum. If 6-7 wins offer him a 2 year extension with a option to terminate the contract without penalty if he does not win 6 games in a season. He had a similar deal at Weber, he was expected to win a minimum of 4 games in he second season. He fell short and they got rid of him without penalty.
I hope for the best this season but if we get more of the same by mid season we should pull the plug and immediately launch into a National Search. That would give us a chance to have a new coach in place by mid December.

I have no idea what's happening with the football program. No news, no QB coach to replace Peterson, little recruiting news, very quiet for this time of year.
