Big Sky Changing Name ???

Thanks for letting me bend your ears - I'm a diehard PSU Viking fan, and normally don't post much on other forums, but I can't help myself, so please bear with me. I noticed there was a thread started back in January (I think) concerning the new TV contract with DirectV & the Root networks, and some recent contributions to that thread. But sometimes kicking out a new line gets some traction, so please let me vent.

Evidently the Big Sky Conference is changing it's name to the Treasure State Conference beginning with the upcoming season, coinciding with the conference's new television contract with DirectV and the Root Network. What else can we expect when every single broadcast includes either Montana or Montana State. Really? And for any apologists out there who defend this crap because of the recent success of the Treasure State schools, all I can say to you is get some balls and contact the Big Sky and voice your concern. It is NOT about the money for me, regardless of how it gets split. I can see showing a few more of their games because of their success, but Holy Sh...t !

Welcome scooter. BTW you do realize that “The Big Sky Conference” already references Montana…cause you know Montana is “Big Sky Country”.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montana

In all seriousness why would you blame a network for mainly focusing on the two programs that have the largest fan bases and largest attendance? Their goal is to make money, and they can only do so by televising the programs that draw the most eyeballs. Secondly Root Sports has two regional networks, Rocky Mountain and Northwest, the latter of which is the region in which your school resides. If anyone has a gripe it’s the CA schools and NAU as Root does not have a regional network to serve those markets. Finally this contract is not exclusive in that Root doesn't control the rights to every BSC game, non-Root televised games are still available for free on BSTV and schools can try to land a deal with a regional/local network to televise those games. BTW Root can televising up to 18 games this season, only 12 have been announced so far.

If you want more PSU games on TV, then win more games (this really goes for anyone griping about not getting games on Root). PSU plays in probably the best stadium in the BSC and yet only drew a paltry 5,947 per game last season (77th in FCS) with an exciting and talented team. Winning cures all. :twocents:

You sure of the Treasure State name change? Seems like a late April fools joke to me. I had heard that the Big Sky was considering a name change, but it was going to be something that would reflect the entire region, not focus on the Montanas even more. If nothing else I could see them re-vampingthe logo. Its a little out-dated.

Since the Great West will cease to exist soon, why not buy the naming rights from them? That's a better reflection of the region that these teams represent.

I think the Great West will still exist as a Oly sports conference. I'm not sure though.
