Big Sky Opener v. North Dakota

Finally the Big Sky sched arrives: To open, NDU. Shouldn't they be UND? No. Then they would be confused with a bigger school, Norte Dame. I guess that's why they opted as they did. I wonder what other schools could learn from such a wise move.

According to a great weblog Big Sky B, "UND does not have anyone that can challenge shots down low, as they have a 4.5 block percentage, 333rd in the country. They have 17 blocked shots through eight games, so opponents know that if they take it to the rim, they are not going to meet a challenge from UND." So this sounds like a Barden/Husk/Lee paradise. Get the ball to these guys and watch the show!

Our season's goal: Win home court for the conference tourney, get to the Dance for our seniors. Let's chop down any so-called bigger tree that tries to overshadow us! Montana, Weber State, who?

Can you call us by our real name - UNC. It's the University of Northern Colorado. Not the Northern Colorado University.

I agree. The University tried to go with NC but that didn't last long.

UNC Bears for life!

Yea its the University of Northern Colorado BEARS. And can we stop with the "small axes stuff. Its not cute, its not funny ,its just plain stupid !

Alright fellow alums (and current students), you win.

Now feel free to prognosticate on the upcoming Big Sky opener. I can't wait!

I like the heavy home sched early: Build up the confidence with some wins early, then take that swag on the road and hopefully trumps the local crowd late.

Agreed. Looking at how other Big Sky teams did on their non-con schedules, I really like our chances. We look like we should finish in the top 4 with a shot at the top spot if things fall into place.

I like starting against UND at home since UND struggled so far this season. I look for UNC to start out slow but pull away in the 2nd half.

Who the hell knows with conference play but I reckon that this season, a 16-4ish record will be the one that can win the conference regular season due to a little bit more parity top-to-bottom in the Big Sky. Last year, Montana and Weber State were so head and shoulders above every one else that it was a two-horse race from the jump and the Grizzlies won the crown behind a 19-1 record. I can't see that happening again. Looking at the first half of the conference schedule, I think an 8-2 start is feasible for UNC which would put them on track for that 16-4 mark.

I am excited to watch this game tomorrow on BigSkyTV but I am also very nervous as a fan of UND. We had very high expectations for this season and figured it will probably be our best shot at making the tournament as we will have in some time. Unfortunately, things have not gone so well for this group. We have a very experienced team with 7 seniors and 5 juniors. For some reason though, this group of seniors has always struggled winning games on the road. I cannot even remember the last time this team won a non-conference road game. Thankfully, this is a conference game and they seem to play better in conference play. As you guys probably already know, our key player is Troy Huff. He is currently averaging 22.7 ppg and 6.8 rpg. Anyways, I am excited to measure ourselves against you guys beings the early success that you guys have had. Good luck!

Yeah, when we won the Big Sky a few years back, our non-con record was horrific. We were talking about firing the coach and wondering what happened to our senior laden team when Big Sky play started. It really is a tale of 2 seasons and this season, our conference seems more wide open.

We're getting out-rebounded 20-12 and we're shooting an unsustainable 67%. This game ain't over.

We need to work on our inbounding, under our own basket especially--we gave up two easy baskets on weak inbound passes.

Add a 5 second violation and Tevin having to waste a timeout on another inbounds attempt. Four bad inbounds plays.

Nice win Bears. Let's work on the turnovers and our inbound passing. Southern Utah should be fun. Hopefully the starters blow it open and the bench can get some quality minutes.

I didn't watch it but looking through the box score I was thinking, wow, our defense must have been really good. Then I noticed that UND shot 56.5% from the free throw line. Talk about an off night for shooting.

Glad to know the moderator isn't watching the conference opener! Was Ovie playing yet another meaningless Cap's game?

We have a shot this year. You should have some faith!
