Sac. st. quite a difference between coaches and media.... the media guy who gave Sac ST. a first place vote is either on to something or on something

Ugh...I don't know if Weber is the best team or not. There is a lot of parity in the league right now. Whoever can defend the home-court and steal a few on the road will probably win out. Who knows what the hell will happen in the idiotic tournament. My vote...GET RID OF THE TOURNEY if the regular season winner can't host. A post-season tournament isn't about equality and neutrality, but getting our BEST team to the Dance. I hate how the conference is pushing this.

Looks like we are going from one classic novel title to another. Last season was the "Winter of our Discontent". This season looks to be Dickens "Great Expectations".

I am not sure how good we are either. I am remember thinking how nasty our defense was during the purple and white game. Last season might have been our softest defensive team ever.

I am really having a hard time getting up for this year. You know that Randy doesn't care about winning non-conference and in state games. Now the conference regular season doesn't matter much. I say do good enough to get a first round bye in the tourney and save your best for Reno.

That is sad commentary, too bad it's true and a valid strategy.

Has anyone paid attention to which poll is historically more accurate? I don't give the preseason polls and rankings much thought but it would be interesting to know how accurate each has been over the years. Does the media look at all teams more in-depth than a coach would or do coaches have more insight being closer to it?

LOL.... I think he's ON SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!

Of course the coaches know more about it than the media, but the media probably spends more time thinking about it. The coaches are usually more centered on what happened last year. That is why I find it hard to believe that they picked us over UM. Although it was as close as it could be. The coaches were really respecting our recent recruiting classes. I think that the media tends to get caught up in their own hype and puts a lot of weight on star players.

I can't argue with the top 4 and the bottom 2. After that, it is a total crap shoot. :coffee:

coaches bumped UND up a bit because of Euro trip success...media guys probably look at last season results returning players and maybe a little at recruits. Montana st adds Juco All American and top rated incoming frosh per ESPN....they could easily exceed 11th. Idaho st appears to be the only team that is extremely likely to finish where they are picked.

Who was the JUCO All-American? The guy whose only other offer was from Delaware St., or the dude whose only other offer was Southeast Louisiana, or the guy whose only other offer was from Idaho State? For a JUCO All-American, which at Weber State, we are fully aware of -we had a 6-6 JUCO All-American who was really 6-4- having only one offer doesn't bode too well for the guy. At least our JUCO All-American had multiple offers. Also, Tyler Hall looks like he is a great get by State, he could really end up being something special and for the Bobs, I hope that happens. But I wouldn't say he is the best overall fresh recruit in the Sky. He is among the top though. As for State, the problem last year was coaching. The plays were wacky at best. Colbert dribble, penetrate, dribble until a guy on the perimeter is open, pass, and jack up a 3. What type of offense is that?

for me...I would go with:

1. Eastern (Depends on their backcourt and the transfers coming in)
2. Montana (Deep team, but a lot of new faces. Also, Mario Dunn is out)
3. Weber State (can't be 1 till we learn how to break a zone and press)
4. NAU (Strong returners, but a lot of newbs.)
5. SUU (Starters are good, but backups??)
6. UND (Played well in Europe, don't really know how that translates here)
7. UNCO
8. SAC
9. Idaho
10. MSU
11. PSU
12. ISU

Coaches don't know crap. Coaches are giving Weber votes in the national FCS poll, and giving Sac St more votes than Weber. Coaches voted Katz coach of the year over DeCuire.

No comments for 7-12? With the awesome, new playoff format (and location) any polls/rankings should include indicators for any teams 7-12 who could peak and/or get hot in the tournament and represent the mighty BSC SOS at the show.

The lowest number of votes ISU could have received is 12. They got 14 what does that tell you? I would love to see them finish middle of the road but it won't happen. If only Ian Fox and his dad would have hung in there.

Blake was JUCO HM All American. Needed to get school work caught up this summer...good to go now.

So the 6-7 C whose only other offer was from Delaware St? Coston was a JUCO HM All-American too. After him, I don't really see that as being very special. Who knows though? He could end up being something special. Look at Barden from UNCO, he was an undersized PF who ended up being a really good player.

I agree with you Tal. These JC kids are a total crap shoot. This MSU center could be good or he could just be a high achieving D2 guy. We won't know until we see him play a little bit, against D1 talent. I think that the coaches poll reflects their knowledge of all the players who will be playing this year and certainly reflects their opinion of the impact the new JC recruits will have on the relative strengths of their respective teams. In other words, they are not putting a lot of stock in the value of JC recruits entering the league.

Media, on the other hand, eat this stuff on a stick. :coffee:
