Big Sky Tournament Moving?

why do they keep moving the neutral site to towns of former big sky members? will the location in 2023 be Spokane or Northridge then?

My guess is it will be Grand Forks.

CenturyLink arena holds 5,300 for hockey. If it holds the same for basketball, we could have a sellout for a championship game between Weber and one of the Idaho schools. UM/Weber could produce a sellout as well. There are a lot of UI, ISU, WSU and UM fans who live within driving distance. The only thing I would like better than Boise is SLC or going back to a host school scenario. Boise has reworked their downtown area in much the same way that Ogden has with 25th Street. I think that many WSU fans will embrace this change. :coffee:

If it were up to Boise City Councilman Scot Ludwig, the tournament would make Downtown Boise its permanent home.

“This is going to be a longer term than three years. I can promise you. We’re going to make this tournament continue perpetually in the Boise area,” Ludwig said at Monday’s press conference. “This arena and the downtown were made for this. We’re ready for this. ... The City of Boise will make this a safe, fun, exciting event that will never go away.”

Boise sure seems more excited about hosting this event than Reno did so good on them for that. We'll see if it lasts.

Scot should talk to a Reno councilperson. I'm sure they were saying some of the same things a few years back.
I thought the exact same thing.
Totally what I thought as well.

Remember all of the awesome promotional things Reno did the first year:
The draft to see what fan bases would stay in what hotels
The media day in Reno with accompanying awkward coaches photos in front of the Reno sign
The Reno nights at the home games
The amazingly planned out #roadtoreno hash tag campaign. Unfortunately no one checked to notice that the American Body Builder Association was using the same hashtag campaign for their championship in Reno.

It appeared that all of the excitement was gone last year. I would guess that there is going to be virtually no promotion for this years tournament in Reno. Did Reno even put in a bid for the future tournament?

Maybe that is why SLC didn't want to put a bid in the pool. Seems to me like it is always going to be a problem if no fans in the BSC are willing to travel. The BSC has never been a good traveling conference. We can't even get a few thou to travel to ISU or SUU. Boise is closer to a lot of fans, and the city of Boise might be more appealing to many of our fans, but how many will actually make the trip? I think we could get a sizable group to it, but that would take a lot of planning and effort. I just don't see the athletic dept. putting in that kind of effort.

I don't doubt that this is a sort of "wet-dream" experience for Boise -having a DI conference tournament housed in your city- but I really wonder what the difference between reNo and Boise is going to be. Yes, it will be somewhat easier to get to, but really who is going to take off time to go to Boise in March?
