Big Sky Tournament

Well, if there was one team I didn’t want to start against, it was EWU. They are probably the hottest team in the second half. Duft already stated the senior heavy leadership makes them tough to beat. He pretty much already planted doubt in his team’s mentality.

Good news if they pull out a win, they most likely play Montana State which they did better against than Portland State.

All 31 unimportant games are done according to Duft. These games are the ones that count. Time to bring it to the dance!

Don't like that the Cats drew Eastern to open the tournament. They are hot and playing well. Though, I Would love to see them win a few and go dancing. Personally, I hate the tournament and its set up. It does nothing to reward the conferences' best team and makes the regular season virtually worthless. I'd love to see the conference go back to its original set up. 6 teams make the tournament and the best team hosts. Protects the conference's best team, rewards a school, community, and programs success and importantly makes the regular season worthwhile. You play for something.

I don't know that there could have been a good draw for WSU. EWU is as good as any. It's just win or go home now. Our home game with EWU was close until their wheels came off in the second half. We won by 11. At EWU was a different story, they kicked our butts. If we get hot, we can win. If we don't, they start planning for next year.

As far as returning to the old days, it won't happen. If I had my way, I'd just send the regular season champ and call it good. That is not happening either. With 11 teams next year, who knows what the format might be. Maybe a play in to play in for the bottom 3 teams. There are probably several ways it could go. You would need to have a mechanism to get to 8 teams for quarters, semis, and the final.

I hope the conference goes to the WCC format with auto spots in the semis for the top 2 seeds and a trickle of byes down the line. That’s the only way to get teams to value the regular season. If you are in sixth like we are you have to win 3-4 games to win it all

They will have a play in game next year for the 10-11 seeds on Friday (one women’s/one men’s game that day). Winner gets the 9 seed on Saturday, 7-8 continue to play each other. The rest of the bracket will remain the same.
