carl has always done those nicknames. half the nicknames the players have over the years are from carl. didnt he also invent the show and the thrill?

maybe its just me, the nickname stuff and funny terms is one of the things i like most about carl. i really miss the lady gaga reference from the 2010 season.

another thing cool about arky is he really loves his job and weber state sports. he said if he was doing it for the pay he would have been long gone years ago. he really enjoys calling the games.

i think as an announcer carl is hotter than honey boo boo child or was it britney spoons hot pants? who doesnt like lord byron lord of the rims? but he should change that once since the harlem shake to fulton the sulton.

the only change we need is to replace dutch with the general.

DUTCH PISSES ME OFF CAUSE HE BREATHS TOO HARD IN THE MICROPHONE... I WAS LISTENING TO A USU - WSU GAME AT THE TIME!!! :coffee: :coffee:
 LOL I think half the time he just complains about the officiating or how poorly the other team is executing a certain play etc. Arky is entertaining enough plus his love for weber basketball really shows.

I must admit i'm a little shocked by the Carl haters. It obvious you haven't listened to some of the other play by play guys in this state. Who would you rather have, Wurbell? I personally really enjoy how he calls a game, and yes he is a homer at times but he's suppose to be, he is after all calling the games for Weber.

Keep up the good work Carl, ignore the chatter from the cheap seats. Here's to many years of listening enjoyment.

Byron "The Sultan" Fulton :notworthy:

I think Arky is the, as Bengalhater would say, the tits. I don't know why anyone would be anti Arky? Oh well, we are all entitled to our opinions.

He has made some lasting impressions on Weber State fans, and indelible mark on the program itself. Need I say more "The Show?"

I remember as a boy listening to every road game on the radio with my dad. We went to every home game, so as we listened to the radio I could picture the players playing the game through what I was hearing on the radio.
I can't remember who was on the broadcasts during my youth but I loved listening to the games. At first Arky really didn't bother me. I was a student at the time. I think the nicknames he he came up with for Harold and Gill were Clever.

But here is my complaint. More time is spent dropping cliches than giving the play by play. It is hard to paint a mental picture of the game when the broadcast is interlaced with so many bad cliches and nicknames. The material seams so forced. Luckily I am at the home games so I don't have to put up with Dutch. But when I have listened to Dutch, the heaving breathing, wraspy voice and constantly leading in with "well Carl" do annoy me.

I am not making any insults. It doesn't bug me that Carl is homer. All play by play guys are. They're on the schools payroll. I just think he is trying way too hard to come with clever material and it gets old. I want him to paint the picture like I am there not talk about how Scotty B is hotter than Honey Boo Boo. If a cliche is dropped it should enhance the broadcast, not detract from what is going. I just think its time to get back to solid play by play.

I like Carl and, yes, sometimes the comments and analogies are a bit repetitious, but he really lets you visualize what is happening at the game when you can not watch. Having watched/listened to all the BSC announcers and many in other parts of the country via college web-streaming, Carl is above most in his commentary and approach.

There are times when Dutch gets too much into the stats, or makes a comment about officiating and calls out a player. But....every so often he comes up with a gem. At the Idaho State game a couple years ago, the ISU football team was seated behind our bench. There were a few people with the buzzing vavazuela horns (like at World cup soccer) and they were blowing them. The officials threatened a technical on ISU if they were used. Dutch came up with the classic: " That just proves why first cousins shouldn't marry." Gotta love him!

Both guys love Weber basketball and for those outside of Ogden, they give us a chance to feel like we're connected.

LOL ya, I was listening to them yesterday during the game and I can't remember exacly what they were talking about, but Carl said something to the effect of, "Thats like saying you like Cindy Crawford for her big ear lobes" and Dutch says, "Cindy Crawford has ear lobes??"
