Big Sky Tourney

If we beat Weber and Montana wins out which team wins that tie breaker?

Weber only needs one win this upcoming weekend to secure the #1 seed because of the win over Montana.

Or if Montana loses one of their games (Not likely) and Weber loses both Weber still gets #1 seed.

Montana fans won't like it, and I wouldn't blame them. Not a fan of the way schedules are done

On the Big Sky Conference web site they note that Weber is assured a top 4 seed but neither team is recognized at the #1seed yet.

Do you know something they don't?

Weber holds the tiebreaker over Montana because of their win on Saturday (they only play once) so Weber has to lose twice and Montana has to win twice for the Griz to get the 1 seed. If Weber beats Idaho on Thursday, expect them to rest their players against us on Saturday as they will have secured the 1 seed.

As for the 3-6 place teams that are all tied. If we beat ISU on Thursday, we will have a one game lead over them and own the tiebreaker over them, so its a huge game, its vice versa if they win. Basically, whoever wins that game will finish ahead of the other, regardless of what happens on Saturday. We need the Griz to beat UND, because if UND beats the Griz and we finish with the same record, I believe they will be ahead of us due to strength of wins (they would have beaten Weber and UM). We also need Weber to beat Idaho for the same reason as the UND/UM game. If UND and IDAHO win on thursday, they would win the tiebreakers over us if we end up tied because they would have beaten the top 2 teams and we all split in head to head games....

Bascially we need to win thursday, and hope either Idaho or UND loses on thursday...which is a strong possibility.

Best case scenario for us is that we win on Thursday and Weber beats Idaho. This would give us a 1 game lead over Idaho and ISU and Weber probably doesn't play their starters on Saturday in Cheney, or at least for any length...

I also don't see UND winning in Missoula, so I wouldn't be surprised to see us in 3rd all by ourselves come Friday, although Idaho is playing damn good right now. Besides their game with us, their losses have all been by 3 points or less, and they did this without their two best players for most of the conference slate, who are now back now. They are a VERY dangerous team come tourney time...

I get what you're saying about Weber not wanting to play their starters as much on Sat, but I doubt they want to go into the Big Sky Tournament on a down note either. I would think any team would want to go into the conference tourney with a ton of momentum. We'll see how it all plays out. You might be right.

go eags!

Maybe, but considering their stud is already hurt and possibly out with an injury, if they've wrapped up the conference, i doubt they play their starters many minutes. I also think if we have somehow wrapped up the 3 or 4 seed, we won't play our starters many minutes either, but not sure we can wrap that up on thursday...

Anyone going to Reno for the EWU game next Tuesday?

The funny thing about us losing and idaho winning tonight means we will only play scrubs against Weber, basically handing Weber the title. Funny you would act like a douche when EWU is the team you need to win on Saturday...

But...you are a griz fan which means that's waaayy over your head

I wouldn't count on that... Going into the tournament with a 4 game losing streak (including dropping 2 in a row at home) isn't something I think your coach would want to do. Especially when the last game is against the current top seed. EWU making a statement that they can beat Weber would mean much more for building confidence going into the tournament than rolling over and accepting a beating.

Just my :twocents: though. Not saying this because I hope you guys win on Saturday either, just that a 4 game losing streak is a bit of a blow to the confidence going into the tournament.

Surprised you guys dropped the game against ISU tonight. Looks like Jois had a rough game from the line and a lot of those were front ends of 1 and 1s.

Just out of curiosity do you guys notice anything different in terms of his free throw motion now compared to what he was doing as a freshman? I was surprised to see he was a pretty good free throw shooter as a freshman for you guys, making 71.2% of them. Down to 48.0% this year though.

Eastern still has thoughts of a ncaa bid, not a chance we play our starters more than 15-20 minutes, knowing we have to play 48 hours later and win 4 games in 5 days...

Jois free throws killed us tonight, as did Mcbroom, although it looked like Austin was getting fouled a ton with the heavy pressure. I didn't have the benefit of replay at the game so not sure.

I guess that ref crew decided to give the hand checking and freedom of movement rules a night off for Idaho State. Several obvious fouls on McBroom that ended in steals and points for ISU. Still, the EAGS blew that game because they could not get critical stops. Hopefully they are saving their best shooting for the tourney.
