Big Sky's All-Time Best

Idaho State's Steve Hayes, who still stands atop several Big Sky Conference all-time categories, was named today as the No. 49 all-time great athlete in conference history. As one of the voters, I had Steve ranked MUCH higher than that, but then I am biased.

That is too low for Hayes.

ISU beating UCLA in March, 1977 better be #1 --though I expect we will get Grizzly love on the list and it will be something from them. Ending the UCLA dynasty was a huge deal and in my mind, the single biggest moment in Big Sky history.

First, what a great idea. Not only remembering athletes but reliving moments. Wow!

As far as Hayes is concerned, I would have thought he'd be ranked higher, too. For those of us that remember those players from days gone by, Steve and the Bengals with their win over UCLA gave not only ISU fans but Idahoans as a whole an enhanced sense of pride, a chance to strut around for weeks as if we played in the game. It seemed everything was right in the world.

But, over the years, there have been some great Big Sky athletes in all sports. I am very interested to see who's on the list for both male and female athletes. I am also interested to read the great moments in conference history.

Go Bengals!
