Biggest off-season need?

You can also mention new or retaining coaches. I'm not sure if Collins plans on keeping the staff intact, but anyways...besides coaching, what other needs can be made right away?

- Better o-line. They were quit possibly the worst in UNC history. I don't know if it's coaching or lack of talent, but we won't win games with this offensive line.

- Better secondary. Again, don't know if it's coaching or lack of good players. They were constantly out of place. All you need to do is remember the Idaho State game. Their QB and receivers were just playing catch.

I think we're okay with QB, although Rubalcaba needs competition in the spring. He's the only QB we have left on the roster.

Glad you changed the subject ! I thought our biggest problem and next seasons concern is the Defensive Backfield, we were absolutely horrendous ! The O line is always work and the QB position will be interesting but I thought we got beat bad with our D backs and that will need some major changes

Clearly the secondary is the biggest area of need. From my viewpoint, their lack of production and/or inability to defend against the pass might have been as much about coaching as it was talent. Other than the Montana State game they looked lost most of the season and contributed as much or more to the 1-11 record than any other position group on the team.

O-Line could also improve. However, I'm not as down with their performance as a lot of you are. You don't put up some of the offensive stats that they did without getting some decent line play. I felt that a lot of the QB pressures, sacks, and interceptions were as much Lobato's indecision and tendency to hold the ball far too long as they were OL breakdowns. They do lose a couple of seniors though, so some of the younger guys will need to step up.

WR looks like an area of need with the departure of Jefferson and Davis. Will still have Stimphil, but can the younger guys fill the void left by those two?

TE probably is an area of need as well. Vander Velde showed some flashes as a receiving TE before going down with the injury. Monson is really more of a blocking TE/HB. One or both of the freshman, Backes or Drage will need to step up.

Rublacabla will be a dynamic QB, but there will be growing pains as he gets his first extended playing time. He is not the only QB on the roster right now though, so there will be some competition in Spring ball. They added true freshman Brandt Berglund to the roster late in fall camp. He was the primary scout team QB. There is a definite need to add one or two QB's to the roster though before fall camp comes up.

At running back, Darius Graham, should be an upgrade from Dennis. He will need to stay healthy though. I don't know a lot about the guys who will play behind him.

As long as everybody sticks around the DL and LB's should be pretty solid with what they have returning.

Where's he from? I can't find any info on him.

Only thing I could find on him when I heard about him was that he played high school ball in Las Vegas last year. He is also the brother of the infamous Brock Berglund who played QB at Valor a few years ago.

Looks like I misspelled his name. It's Brant Berglund. I did just find his Hudl highlights - http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1498650/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I gotcha. I figured they might be related. They also offered Nick Arbuckle, a JC QB out of Woordland Hills, CA. He also has an offer from UNLV though.

I like Collins's past two recruiting classes. They look good on paper, really good. I hope they pan out though.

A JC QB with some experience would be nice. Definitely need some depth at QB.

Agreed, the last 2 classes have been pretty solid. Wonder if they can bring in another solid class this cycle? Will be tough considering the record this past season.

KICKER!

The kicking game this season was an absolute disgrace. To think a so called DI program was completly incapable of even being able to convert a 30 yard field goal boggles my mind. That's high school JV shit...

Heard Chad Jeffries from San Diego State just committed. That would be a big pick up!
Committed where ?? He redshirted in 2011, did not play in 2012. So what happened this last year at SDSU ?? And why are we so lucky? Don't get me wrong, I think it would be awesome . Its just the way things have been going around here .

Sounds like it might be a possibility based on this U-T San Diego article-

Fourth-string QB Chad Jeffries (broken hand), a sophomore, is on leave from the team while investigating transfer opportunities, Long said.

Would be a big pick up that will provide some much needed depth and competition for Rubalcaba. I wouldn't necessarily pencil Jeffries in as the starter though. Looking at some of the articles on Jeffries over the last couple years it sounds like maybe he has struggled to adjust to the college game and seems to have had some injury problems.

I'm not too excited about a 4th string QB dropping down from a Mountain West team. Looks like he was highly touted coming out of high school but never turned out to be a good QB at the FBS level. Oh well, the more competition for the spot, the better.

Did some checking and actually Jeffries made it to the 2 spot after Dingwell imploded in the Ohio state game and Quinn Kaehler took over as the starter. He was recruited by Coach Hoke and Borgus before they left for Michigan and SDSU has had several different OC's since. Who says he's not a good QB? We'll take him just for being involved in an FBS program that's won more games then we have.

I didn't say he would help. We need the QB competition. But it's obvious he was a bit over-rated coming out of high school. I hope he contributes though, if he is indeed going to be a Bear.
