BLM named QB1

Mr. Minnerly,

I was hoping to see your son at QB over the next three years, but apparently that's not going to be the case. I was told by an assistant coach in 2008 that one of the great things about Jeff was that he had the athleticism to play another position if he didn't work out at QB. He said that Jeff was told he would get a chance to compete at QB first, but they would consider moving him if he lost that competition and the staff felt he could help the team playing another position. My assumption was this took place during the recruitment. Obviously I was not in on the conversations with Jeff or your family, so my apology to you for the error in my previous post.

For the record: Ask any player - there was NO QB COMPETITION. None. Ask any QB and they too, will tell you. And if they won't - check out their facebook or myspace pages. They post it there.

Mr. Minnerly - tell your son to keep throwing the ball. A lot can happen - even as we get into next years season. He's a true leader, that kid.

Thanks for the practice updates Vic. I can't speak for anyone else, but I really appreciate your observations from practice.

Vic - no worries. We were aware of what was going on before your post. Keep the info coming! I'm wondering how the team looked today at practice - finally a nice day of weather.

And thewatcher, stop calling me Mr. Minnerly  No worries, I just want people to know the truth.

RockTheRed, you can stop calling me Mr. Minnerly too!! :D . You bet I'll tell Jeff to keep throwing and to keep working hard and do what he can to help the team. You are right he's a true leader, but then I'm slightly biased in my opinion.

This seems to be a good forum. Good discussion and no one too whacky so far. Still can't figure out why you all won't put your names down so I know who you are. Oh well!

Welcome Jeff (Sr) :D !

Jeff,

We didn't have practice today, however, we are suppose to have practice tomorrow @ 4 or 5 pm, no pads Woodward Field.
Wednesday left practice early due to prior commitments. Jeff seemed much more into his new position, he seems as if he is really enjoying hitting. Remember Jason Hanson, was also a QB, he went to the Special Teams, he really enjoyed it, he even made a statement, "it is nice hitting, instead of being hit" He is now working for his TE position.

Hope to see some of you at the practice tomorrow, at Woodward Field. Weather is supposed to be nice.

Next week is what we have been working towards. Red/White Scrimmage, and the good grub starting at 4:30pm, followed by the Lobster Meal etc, at 6:30pm, following by the dance. Hope to see most of you there, Our former OL Michael Roos and others will be there. I am getting hungry, I have to split. Good night. Go Eagles! Vic Wallace

To All,
Practice today @ 5pm, w/o pads went ok. Tomorrow will be another scrimmage @ noon, I think. Today the Quarter Backs looked great, however, BLM threw for an interception. Anthony Vitto, Greg Panelli, Nick Gauthier, and Scott Burgett, did great throwing the balls.

Met two of our incoming Recruits at practice today, Evan Day, DL/Jase Butorac, OL. both from Skyline High School. They are two big young men, and enjoyed being at the practice. They stated they will be at the scrimmage tomorrow. I noticed two of our defensive players working on punt returns, Jesse Hoffman, and Autise Gauldin, they both look exceptional. Don't know if they will be doing PR, the catches made me think they should have an opportunity to try. As I have stated beforeI am not the Coach, he will make that final decision.

As most of you know the weather was terrific, and enjoyable to watch the practice. Hope to see a big crowd tomorow. I know some of you would like to know how the DL/OL are doing. The Depth Chart should be out very soon. Next week is the Red/White Game, hope we have a big crowd for the scrimmage, and at the Lobster/Roast Dinner, followed by auction/dance. See you tomorrow. Go Eagles!. Vic Wallace

Eagle 1, I agree with your input. We are in the business to win games. I have my favorites, hnowever, BLM looked great, now the other Quarter Backs will have to show what they can do. Honestly I am impressed with all 6 QB, as of yesterday, I think Bo is the front runner. Remember those are my opinions. There is a saying "Opinions are like Butt Holes, we all have one" Sorry ladies.

For the Katy, Texas, Fans. I spoke with Bo Levi twice yesterday, he expl;ained Cory will be here after his younger graduates from high school, then they would get in their car and make it here to Cheney, WA. He said Cory would walk on as a WR, his younger brother would register at EWU, and attend classes.

I must say Bo is very respectable, every time I talk with him, it is yes sir, etc. Maybe he noticed the grey hair in my mustche  After the scrimmage, I saw Bo again with some of his team mates at Subway getting some grub for their stomachs. It is nice to see him now mingling with the players.

The scrimmage was ok, high winds again. To many fumbles, I must say I think the Defense won the scrimmage. Our OL will get better. There were some hitting there yesterday. (For FrontFive4Life) Go Eags! Vic

Exactly what I've been wanting to hear! What year is he? Also, any clue about his 40 time? At 6'7 220 he's pretty light, so I could see somewhere in the 4.5-4.8 range. Won't matter though if he has some hands... just go up and get 'em! ;)

Cory Mitchell - 6'7
Brandon Kaufman - 6'5 :o
Nick Edwards - 6'3 :)

We got some big receivers... I love it!

Cory Mitchell is about 6'2 from what i heard. I think you mixed him up with the other Mitchell, Patrick, Bo's older brother. Either way reciever are starting to sound good to me. Very exciting!

Just keep throwing it to the side-lines and let 'em get it........ :D

Seriously though, a 6'3-6'7 receiver against a 5'8-5-10 CB that we usually see in the BSC, is a huge mismatch.

That makes more sense. So Cory is the younger brother, Patrick older? Or does he have 3 brothers coming to EWU? And will Patrick walk on at WR or a different position?

We need to have realistic expectations about our QB play next year. Remember that our last 3 QB's have been All-Americans. I am hoping as much as the next guy that BLM or whoever the #1 ends up being will come in and throw for 3,000 yards and 30 td's next year. But if he struggles early, remember Nichols in '06. We need to be patient and keep expectations realistic.

Uh oh... where's your confidence Ranger? Instead of thinking that Bo Levi is the real deal, now you're talking "struggles"? Where did this come from? Fans aren't patient when players are hyped up. Doesn't matter if you put it here in writing. There are expectations - TO WIN. And mostly people aren't going to be like you and be patient. They're going to call for the coaches to be fired, or for X player to be benched. They'll question the play calling. They'll even bad mouth the kids that are out there battling in the contest. They'll make it personal. It happens.

Check out Cougfan.com over the past two years. It's vicious. Very few fans are "patient" or "realistic". And being that BLM only has two years of eligibility - the expectation is going to be two GREAT years. Perhaps you really feel that you can be objective, or perhaps you are trying to talk yourself into being patient and having realistic expectations.

By the way... what do you consider realistic expectations?

I've never claimed that he was "the real deal". I haven't seen him play yet, so I am fairly certain the only comments I have made have been to the effect of wishing him well, just as I wish all our players well. I hope he will be "the real deal", because I want our program to continue it's winning ways, win the Big Sky, and make the play-offs yet again.

I have been following Eastern football for a long time, through the highs and the lows, so I have seen a lot of QB's come through the school. I don't think people really realize how "spoiled" we have been with the QB's we have had in the past, well, decade, really. The past 3 we have had have been All-Americans, one won the Walter Payton Award winner , and the other broke almost every school record in existence during his tenure.

That is a *lot* to live up to. And while I am confident and optimistic about BLM's abilities, all the hype he's received isn't going to help him out on the field. I'm not knocking BLM at all or saying that he can't or won't have a great career here - I think he can and that he will, he's obviously a very talented player that will do big things here.

But when I said "realistic expectations", I suppose I meant that we shouldn't just expect him to come in day 1 and be the next Meyer or Nichols.

Hell, I think he's the real deal. I watched some of his highlight reels on YouTube, and the kid is a damn good player. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility at all to assume that he's going to have 2 very solid seasons at EWU. Why would it be?

RockTheRed said:
Did you watch highlight reels from his 2 seasons at SMU? Out of curiosity.

Only 2008 highlights that are on youtube. I can't seem to find anything from 2009, although I know he was injured a large part of this past season.

He actually played in 9 games last year prior to his injury.

9 games out of 13

Games played: 9
Comp 149
Att. 266
Int 10
Yards 1725
TD 12

His replacement, a true freshman played 7 games, 10 TDs, 4 Int and 1922 yards.
