Blue Gold Game Picts

I didn't make the game - anyone who made it have any feedback? How did the team look? Any bright spots? Any major areas of concern?

From what little I saw written up it seems like the offense is still in really bad shape.
QB's were a combined 13 of 37 (that is 35% accuracy when we need it to be around 60%)
QB's ran the ball 19 times for -26 yards (were they running the option or just being sacked a lot)
RB's went for 120 yards on 33 carries (3.63 yards per carry - again something over 4 and closer to 5 ypc is preferred)
If my math is right, that would be about 232 yards of offense in 89 plays. That is 2.60 yards per play which is beyond anemic. Given that the average game results in 60 to 70 plays or so for the offense that would be somewhere between 150 and 180 yards of offense. That needs to improve bigtime.

The bright side is the defense must have looked really good.

Again, anyone who was there that can let us know if they saw some improvement from last year would be great. Thanks.

I was at the game. Several things stood out for me. The first thing is I've been to a lot of spring games and I've never seen so many players out of action. The QB's didn't do so hot because 3 starting offensive linmen were not playing and 2 regular back-ups were out too. The QB's didn't impress me much but I think this Waggener kid is going to be pretty good. The online Tribune didn't have the article about the offense but I read the print edition. Anyways... in the article coach Darnell said Waggener, when he has time puts the ball on the spot and is more accurate than any QB he's been around. And this guys has been around a lot of QB's. I just hope our offensive line buys him time to make those throughs. One of the running backs said Waggenere is a great QB and they have a lot of confidence in him. I did see him make some very nice throws and once he works on the timing with the wide outs we should see nice things from this offense. However, I am still not happy about the running game. Nigel Nelson had a decent game but nothing to brag about. On defense, Max Hewitt came up with a pick, John Eddy is going to be Super Man this fall and the somoan transfer was playing well too. One of the coaches mentioned we will have the best book ends in the conferense (Eddy and Davis) hell maybe we don't need Silipo. Over all it was typical scrimmage. I just hope those injuries are healed by August. It was a decent crowd but they can do much better if they actually advertise the game more. Here's to a good off season!

So is Waggoner (spelling?) a Junior? I would check the roster but apparently that's forbidden for some reason. :lol:

Actually injuries could be the theme for '08.

In '06 they sucked because they had all Dalton's crappy players and they were stabbing each other. :shock:

In '07 they sucked because there were young because they ran off all of Dalton's players. :roll:

So '08 could be the year that we suck because of injuries. :lol:

Maybe in '09 the excuse can be we suck because we have a new coach. 8)

A lot of injuries means one of two things;

1) Piss poor conditioning

2) Lack of pride, we used to call it "taking a dive."

None of these two things bodes well. I hope I am wrong.
