Bob Stitt hired at UM

I don't know that Stitt will be a bad hire, but it doesn't seem like a grand-slam hire either. Not sure why they wouldn't have gone after CSU-Pueblo's coach, Wristen, who has a better coaching record and is taking his team to the D-II national championship. Maybe Colorado State is looking at him.

It's been an odd off-season of coaching changes. Gary Anderson leaves nationally ranked Wisconsin for Oregon State. Bo Pelini takes the FCS Youngstown State job today. UNLV hired a high school coach to replace Bobby Hauck.

I think schools are looking for "fits," more than just winning the press conference. And on the other side of the coin, having respect for the person you are working for is critical.

1. Stitt had a hand tied behind his back in recruiting being at a strict-admissions engineering school.

2. Wristen has a major domestic violence conviction in his past.

The only "fit" UNLV is looking for is how good the Fertitta family's money fits into the athletic department. They're loaded, have casinos, Lorenzo is the CEO of the UFC, and they're friends with Tony Sanchez. They flooded Bishop Gorman High School with anything they needed or wanted. Seriously, look at the facilities page for BG, it would make most FCS schools drool.
