The non-renewal means Stitt’s tenure at Montana ends with a 21-14 record that includes a 14-10 record against Big Sky Conference competition. Stitt posted a 1-2 record against Montana State and a 1-2 record against Eastern
Washington, UM’s two primary rivals in the league.

That is what schools do that want a winning program.

Although he had a winning record, they weren't the same UM Grizzlies as before. They missed the playoffs two years in a row and lost to arch-rival Montana State in consecutive years. Bob Stitt's offense was good at Mines, but too sophisticated I think for non-engineers to play in. This is a guy that was not selected as UNC coach two times over.
