Bolomboy in the NBA?

I've heard and read reports from local media outlets that Joel is an NBA prospect. His growth over the last few years has been fun to watch. Last night vs. UND he was a beast! 23 rebounds and 20 points?! Nice work Joel.

Does anyone know if the rumors of him potentially getting drafted are true, or is this just wishful thinking? Have there actually been any NBA scouts to watch him play this year? I understand that Big Sky conference games aren't exactly gold mines for NBA talent scouts...

IMO I think he could play in the NBA. He is just such an amazing raw athlete. He obviously is a natural rebounder, he has established himself as a strong paint player, he's added some range to his jumpshot, he can put the ball on the floor SO much better than he used to, he is a stellar defender and rim protector. I think he could he could definitely find a roster spot in the NBA.

Interested to hear other fans opinions of his game and if you think it translates to the next level.

From what I've heard there are NBA scouts at most if not all of Weber's games to watch Joel. I thought he took a step backwards last season (thanks to poor coaching, playing him out of position, and lack of help) but he's taken huge steps forward this season. Most games he looks like a man amongst boys. Last night was the prime example. He was so much better, stronger, quicker, and more athletic than anyone on the floor.

If you watched the broadcast last night, Joe Cravens said that he had talked to a person in the Buck's organization just before the game about Joel. Yes, he is getting a LOT of looks. Also, how does Joel take a step backwards because of coaching and then take a huge step forward without coaching?? Granted, he was playing out of position last year, and we had some injuries (Senglin) last year that hurt, but would he or Hill be in the position they are in without coaching? If the coaching didn't help, then where did the difference come from? If you want to see some difference in coaching compare David Patton when he was coached by Cravens to when he was coached by Rahe!! It is a world of difference. If you think that Rahe can't develop players, you are full of $hit.

No doubt Joel is being scouted frequently and talent will be found wherever it is. The fact that he is near the top of of some statistical lists and Lillard preceded him ensures some extra recognition. Joel's game (Hill's too) has taken some big steps this season. Assuming he continues to impress, Weber makes an appearance at the dance, and he shows off his stuff on the big stage, there's no reason to believe he wont compete for a late first round pick.

Okay...so yes, I totally missed on Matt Washington, I readily admit that. Darin Mahoney and Nick Hansen both told me that he was athletically a freak. He could jump out of the gym. You all have to admit that. However, he probably should have high jumped instead of played basketball.

But, I seem to remember you (catcat) telling me that McKay Cannon was a "nob" and would never play for Randy (he's a starter right now as a true freshman), that Azeez Leek was, hmmm, wasn't it "too skinny, skinny, and dumb looking?" One of the top players in Weber State history and finally that Danko was too skinny to play as a big man. I think I've hit more than I've missed. Do you want me to bring up Jenkins, Nipara, Van Pelt, Jones, and Uncle Fester too? Go back and look. You PattenJr wannabe!! go get a master's somewhere else and become super fan of that school because they be in the Pac12.

Oh and on a side note...I also said that losing Jared Quyale would be a serious issue. It was.

Did I say anything about Rahe developing players? The fact that Bolomboy was playing out of position is poor coaching. A step back? Maybe that's not fair, but he certainly didn't improve at the pace we were expecting or hoping for. He was more tentative and not nearly as aggressive. Maybe that's BECAUSE he was playing out of position, but whatever it was his play is far ahead of where it was last season.

If Joel was playing out of position last year (and that accounted for his poor performance and was a sign of poor coaching) how do you explain his exceptional performance this year, when at least half of his minutes on the floor are with him playing the 5 alongside Hill, not playing the 4 alongside Braxton?
In the last game, Braxton played a total of 18 minutes, probably 6 of which were alongside Hill. So that means Braxton played alongside Bolomboy for just 12 of Joel's 33 minutes. Was Bolomboy not playing out of position for the other 21 minutes?

Over the last 6 or 7 years, we have had at least one NBA scout at all of our home games. If Bolomboy isn't drafted, it will not be due to not being seen. I'm sure that Senglin is being watched as well. We are lucky to be within 30 miles of a venue where every NBA team makes visits every year, half of them more than once. :coffee:

I don't quite understand why Joel could only be the Co-Big Sky Player of the Week. Good thing he ended up being the MidMajor Player of the Week. He had to share the Big Sky weekly award.

Guess having 40 rebounds in two games, a 20/23 game, the most rebounds in almost 30 years for a Big Sky players, being #2 in the nation in rebounding, and then averaging 17 points in the two games, with 2 blocks, and 6 assists wasn't enough to be the best for the week. Of course, some guy from Montana had to share the award (Walter Wright...he didn't even have a double-double).

Good job Joel.

I do remember Sean Miller of Arizona mentioning that he felt like Bolomboy had the tools to be a NBA player or something like that after he grabbed 16 rebounds.
If he continues to develop, the sky is the limit.

UND assistant Shawn Dirden says he will be shocked it Bolomboy is not a first round draft pick.http://skylinesportsmt.com/big-sky-breakdown-january-14/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Everything I've read said Joel would be a early second round draft. And THOSE predictions were at the beginning of the season. I too, will be surprised if he doesn't go in the 1st round.
It sure would be interesting if he went to Portland and was on the receiving end of Damian assists.

The thing that really impresses me about Joel is that he is getting everyone's full attention, double and triple teamed, and yet he is still a 20 and 10 guy. What we are seeing, this year, out of him is still just the tip of the ice berg. He has come a long, long way since arriving here as a freshman. Yet, you can see that he is improving all the time. He is going to get much better. I wish he had taken a RS year and we had him for one more. Although, it may have worked out like Damian's situation, where we lost him early anyway.

I don't have a prediction of where Joel might go in the draft, but I do think he will be playing in the NBA next year. He is a great young man and deserves everything he will get.
