The Missoulian is only reporting at the moment (10 a.m.) that an annoucnement is coming, but insider sources at U of M report athletic director Jim O’Day and football coach Robin Pflugrad have been fired because of all the criminal and legal issues with the football program.

What a mess there! And ANOTHER player arrested for beating up a girl in the last couple of days... GEEZ!

Don't think they'd look at Wulff considering his problems here. But I can think of another Eastern Coach they might go after. :ohno:

Dunno, the pay increase would be really minimal. But boy, would that suck.

True, plus he'd be heading into a shit storm with very little time to put a program in place. Recipe for disaster and an already angry fanbase. But if I were the Griz, I couldn't think of a better candidate.

It would be perfect for the Griz, but certainly not for Baldwin. For the points you mentioned, but also because he already has everything going great here, and with a major foe taking a hit like that, it only makes his job easier to win the BSC and go on another playoff run this year with the talent we have returning. I really can't imagine he would make a sideways move like that, all the while screwing over EWU. Not his style.

I'm only surprised their president had the guts to show these two the door. Griz fans who love their University more than their football team should be heartened by today's firings. Only on that night of destiny in Frisco have I ever been happier to be an Eagle.

have a hard time believing Beau or his staff would want anything to do with the circus that is montana football especially considering all the work they have put in to making the Eastern program what it is today. I dont think they'd risk damaging their brand in that fashion. Its not a good situation to walk into there.

I'd never rejoice in two guys losing their jobs like this, but IMO this is just a culmination of years and years of nefarious activity conducted by UM football players that has finally caught up with them. It started long before Pflugrad was hired at UM. So, I can't say that I am surprised in the least.

The thing that really stands out to me in all this is that despite all of their competitive advanatages they still cannot run a marginally "clean" program. Dunno, am I off base here? I know every college football program has kids that get into trouble, but it just seems like they are on a completely different level in Missoula, despite what some of their apologists might say.

Been over on egrizz reading there 24 threads on todays firings. The University is just citing a "Change of Leadership" and declining a press release so to speak. Also notworthy, many posters who claim to be in the know in Grizzland claim anywhere from 4-7 other players will be asked to leave the team. Some are indicating that JJ Johnson(QB) may be one of them or that he is also seeking a transfer. Many also think this runs deeper and more firestorms are to follow. This could set the Montana football program back a few years IMO! Anyway, migrate over to egrizz for many many topics, good reading.

Yeah, this is a terrible time for the firing of a head coach on many levels and I'm guessing there's much more to come out. It could be just a complete lack of control over the program but given that O'day's firing it also might signal some sort of collusion to cover up. But that's purely speculation on my part.

I'd be more concerned that they come here shopping for an A.D.

Good point, but I think the coaching hire has more urgency. You would think the interim A.D. and/or the president will be doing that first.
