BREAKING NEWS > O’Day and Pflugrad OUT at UofM

The fight at the top of the conference will have one less member this year. Losing your HC/AD right after you start spring ball? That's a disaster. Lose your starting QB among others to boot? I hope we take care of business this fall.

I'm just guessing the higher ups at the University of Montana have a bigger plan in store in terms of a new AD/HC and robbing another rival BSC team of there coach and AD isn't one of them. For me this isn't even a scenario I would worry about given Eastern's spring ball starts on Tuesday, April 3rd, 5 days from now. I know a few of you have posted this, but REALLY!!! I 99.99% doubt that would ever happen. Just my opinion, but they have many more options. This seems to be more of an Ohio State Jim Tressel scenario where coaches need to have more accountability for their program.

Don't think they'd look at Wulff considering his problems here. But I can think of another Eastern Coach they might go after. :ohno:

Dunno, the pay increase would be really minimal. But boy, would that suck.

True, plus he'd be heading into a shit storm with very little time to put a program in place. Recipe for disaster and an already angry fanbase. But if I were the Griz, I couldn't think of a better candidate.

Really? Cuz I could think of roughly 11,237 better candidates -- including a couple Pop Warner assistants. But hey, what do I know?

Doubt it'll happen but boy it would suck if UM picked up Baldwin. Even if our replacement was just as good, I would *not* want to have to play against one of his teams on a regular basis. Especially a program as well funded as Montana. Just listening to him speak on the coach's show makes me want to go tear down a wall for the guy. Easy to see why players must be jacked to play hard for the him!

This this this. Coach B knows how to earn the respect of his guys and make them want to ball out. Really hope he sticks around for the foreseeable future. A quality man and the pinnacle of coaches.

I think they were referring to the Griz stealing Baldwin...

I can assure you, Coach Baldwin isn't going anywhere, especially Montana!

The posts over on egriz are pretty entertaining. Sounds like some Griz fans are pretty fed up. O'Day's sister has her 6 season tickets up for sale now. Also seems to be a lot of people pissed off that they fired them the day AFTER season ticket renewels were due!

I'm never ready to count out the Griz any season, but especially if the list of 7 to 8 players leave like rumors are saying (inlcluding Johnson) then they're gonna have a tough time recovering.

Can players just leave? I thought they are basically under contract and would need to request a release from the University.

The way I understood it was that the University may be taking care of that themselves by given em the boot! At this point, it's all rumor...we'll just have to see how it unfolds. I'll be in Montana this weekend, be interested to hear the different reactions!

I have also read many (too many) of the posts and have to wonder if this is not what happened.
Pres Engstrom wanted to clean up the program and adhere to the Code of Ethics which says no tolerance for offenses that blemish the appearance and reputation of the University. Going back to a couple of the player related incidences last year Phlu kind of blew that off. Like two players that were tazered sitting out the first quarter of a meaningless game, is a insult the the code of ethics. Phlu's actions in other situations were similar. Then when he gave glowing remarks of JJ during a rape investigation and allowed him back at practice. Another insult to the code and the University Pres if my first assumption is correct. It appears that was the last straw and the U took action. These are just two of numerous player related incidences that look bad for the athletic dept. While many of the posters on eGriz are outraged, I think many of the citizens of Missoula are outraged as well that it appears the players get away with everything. While the timing appears very awkward, if the Pres and board were serious about cleaning things up they had to take action while the window of opportunity was open.
Really sad for two men to get fired but they have to be held accountable for their actions or lack thereof.

Now if they would just get rid of that magic potion that puts 30 pounds on their players during the course of a winter workout schedule! Come to think of it, if they did that maybe there'd be a few less off field incidents.
