Everything I've ever seen from this guy is biased bullcrap.

My post wasn't necessarily aimed at you but the Joe D articles recycling the same local names over and over whenever a coaching position is open is tiresome. I get he is throwing softballs to his target audience but the Hornet athletics profile (for all sports) surpassed the hiring of head coaches from the JC ranks over a decade ago. It's sad that the local beat writer doesn't grasp this.So to be clear, I wasn’t suggesting they hire Osterhout…I was just pointing out that he would be a better choice than Richardson.
Taylor is still in firm pursuit of the job and he’s without question the most viable candidate. I’m just hoping Wood doesn’tit up.
For those of you on this site who think that you have some degree of influence now is the time to jump in and exercise it. I’m talking about doing it today.
He lost me (besides his prior hit pieces) with this spewing about tradition and college football. He's clearly viewing college football through the pre-NIL/revenue sharing era lens and, unfortunately, tradition doesn't really matter for the decision makers. D1 athletics, specifically the major sports, are operating as professional minor league teams (minus the tampering rules) now. This idea of loyalty and tradition is over now that coaches and players can hop around on an annual basis. I don't necessarily agree with it but it is what it is.Everything I've ever seen from this guy is biased bullcrap.
The interesting thing about the NIL and the coaching carousel that the article writer missed is that the new system in fact allows teams to scour the country for a coach that cal elevate a program in year one, see his example of Cignetti. I love tradition, but those days are now over and we will soon have our HC, for how long, does not matter what matters is the product on the field. He lost me (besides his prior hit pieces) with this spewing about tradition and college football. Yeah his examples disproved his narrative. Cignetti was poached from JMU along with the coaching staff and a lot of the players to Indiana via the transfer portal which resulted in immediate success. Dr. Wood tried something similar with Marion and it's spun as a bad thing. The interesting thing about the NIL and the coaching carousel that the article writer missed is that the new system in fact allows teams to scour the country for a coach that cal elevate a program in year one, see his example of Cignetti. Poor Angus McClure being dragged up every few years, whether he knows it or not. I'd bet he'd rather be left alone at this point. He seemed like a good candidate several times.recycling the same local names over and over whenever a coaching position is open is tiresome.
Yes, this is a serious post. I'm high on these people because I know them personally. However, I acknowledge that Taylor had great success here and is likely to do so again should the AD get him signed. That's why I said that he would be at the top of the list should he want to go "Back to the Future."Is this a serious post?
The Troy Taylor comments were not at all the concern. I think everybody, myself included, on this board has shown their interest for him returning.Yes, this is a serious post. Thank you for the honest feedback without trashing me. This is the collegial discussion that this board has been known for over the years until one unnamed guy decided to attempt a coup. Since I was locked out, SD has done a masterful job moderating the board, and people like you make it a joy to come in here, even when we disagree. The Troy Taylor comments were not at all the concern. I think if Mr. Canales was someone to truly help move our program forward, he probably would not be an NAIA coordinator with his extensive career. I’m sure he’s a great guy.
As for Mr. Fassel, a 21 year NFL Special Teams Coordinator, doesn’t exactly scream someone that might be wanting to jump to an FCS school in complete limbo, nor scream experience in recruiting, transfer portal, NIL etc. I don’t think his one season at New Mexico Highlands in 2003 classifies as relevant unfortunately. Again, I’m sure he is a great guy though.
I understand the value of due diligence but this is a no brainer.
Last week Orr said they were doing a "Nationwide Search", Wood said they would have a coach by the end of this week. Cal Poly did a "Nationwide Search" and hired Tim Skipper four days later.I understand the value of due diligence but this is a no brainer.

I think most here agree.
However, with the hiring of Brennan Marion, and the reported heavy interest in Michael Vick prior to that, Luke Wood has shown everyone where his mindset is.
And that's why I've previously stated that I'm not overly hopeful he'd seriously consider re-hiring Taylor despite his prior success with the program.
The only hope I do have is Mark Orr's relationship with Taylor, and the fact that time is of the essence.
Hopefully most of the influential alumni and donors out there are openly lobbying for a Taylor reunion.
