Some interesting results first game (second for UM) of the season. No one talking here about MSU Bobcats big win over Ft Lewis (& Coach JLS?) 45-14 ?? Add a win over a PAC 12 (PSU-24 Washington St-17); a win over a MW (UND-24 Wyo-13); NAU beat SFA on the road & of course, UM Grizzlies big first game win over NDSU, but then losing second game to Cal Poly by a last second field goal 20-19 (doesn't count in conference). A few good wins for the BSC!

Although there was the downside, (besides Wildcats poor offensive showing vs OSU Beavers)...Oregon handled EWU in a high scoring affair that had Ducks new QB (former EWU's QB) Adams proving he's still impressive in play. :coffee:

Not be outdone SUU losing to Utah State 12-9.

One thing to consider is that the Big Sky continues, from top to bottom, to improve. It is an extremely competitive league. Weber is better from last year and light years ahead of where they were two years ago but the Cats are still behind. Oregon is one of the absolute best programs in the nation and Eastern stayed with them. An average PSU team knocks off Washington State and another win against a MW school. The MW isn't anthing special. Boise is good but that's about it for the MW. Wyoming is dreadful, yet both years Weber should have beaten the pokes they went to bowl games. UND stomped them though. That game wasn't even close. Not a lot of difference between MW and Big Sky. I would wager that four Big Sky teams could challenge, sans Boise, for the title. What I'm getting at, is Hill has his work cut-out for him. Gotta get better quick.

Am I disappointed; Yes and No. I am excited by the fact that Weber kept up with a PAC 12 team and was down by 6 going into the 4th. However, I was frustrated by the offense. I don't know if the issue is Jadrian or coaching. Let's all remember, Hill is a product of Whittingham. Ute fans complain incessantly about the lack of offensive production. We might be experiencing the same thing.

Your right, hill has his work cut out for him. The big sky is getting better each year so WSU better step it up big time and quick. The recruiting this year for a lot of buzz, (mainly from the coaches) but there wasn't much serious talent. I think they would of been better off bringing in more serious transfers that can make immediate impact and compete. I think they are relying on players of the past who were average at best and just because their now upper class man they think magically are going to be better? Remember you can't shine meatballs!! The biggest challenge hill has going forward is hiring quality coaches who can recruit and coach at the next level. Not sure he has the funds to do so. Going to have to start getting better players outside of the cache valley, kanab and southern Idaho powerhouse areas! That was a joke! More So cal, Az and southeast.

I'm disappointed too but certainly not ready to hit the panic button yet. Weber certainly has strides to make offensively but we're still looking at the first game of the 2nd season for the current WSU staff that seems to get raided nearly every year anymore. I see problems both with the QB (players) and play calling (coaches) but thought I saw it more so with the coaching of Hammer, under Sears. Maybe not, but I personally hit rock bottom with my dissatisfaction with the offensive side of the ball with Hammer.

I guess I can understand some passing struggles when nothing's going on with the run game. I saw real deficiencies with the thrown ball vs OSU (doesn't help matters when you've got key drops either) but where I was raising my eyebrows was with some of the play calling, especially with regards to the run game. Unless I'm just not seeing it, the tight-ends really haven't been used much in the passing game for many years now. I think that's an important part of a successful and exciting offense.

I guess the bottom line is Weber isn't going to win many games if the offense can't put points on the board but gauging them on the first game of the second (complete) rebuilding season vs a PACx defense probably isn't very fair.

For week 3 not much to celebrate...my read has the BSC going 0 for --, only game against FBS was Arizona throttling NAU 77-13 ? Oh, except Boise St thumping ISU 52-0 (what's happened to the Bengals?) & Hawaii beating UC Davis. One note was EWU beating MSU 55-50 in another "not a conference game". :coffee:

The, not bad but not good, news is that we finally converted some third downs into first downs and scored some points outside of defense and special teams. And, of course, we won! But do we really have anything to celebrate? Sacramento State is at best an average Division II team with a QB who isn't even that good. So I am not so sure that winning convincingly against this team amounts to much of anything. They are the worst team that Weber will face this year. But I do expect Weber to win the next game against UNC also, since they aren't much different in ability than SAC State.

Weber has 8 games left in the season. There is one of them that Wever should win, and that is the next one. There are 5 other games that are winnable/toss-ups. They are North Dakota, Northern Arizona, UC Davis, Souther Utah and Idaho State. That leaves two games that I consider unwinnable. They are Eastern Washington and Montana. So I say Weber will go 5-6 this year by beating UNC and winning 3 of the 5 "winnable" games and losing to Montana and Easter Washington.

I think the defense and special teams are better than they were last year, but the offense, so far, is worse. Overall they will win more games than last year because so many of the Big Sky teams are more beatable for Weber than they were last year. The better record will not be attributable to a better offense or QB...

I say again: "We need a good OC and a good QB coach if we are to compete at the level we desire."

Interesting Sat. in BSC play. Those who say there's more parity, less separation may be right.
SUU sits at the top 6-0, after beating MSU in Bozeman 34-23 (maybe Bobcats aren't as tough this season?)
NAU beats Eastern Washington @ Flagstaff 52-30 (no come back or slim margin win for Eagles this time)
No. Colorado wins 35-32 over PSU (are the Bears growing stronger?)
And, Idaho St. loses in OT to Montana (on a fumble recovery & return for the winning score...Bengals may be gunning for a rare win come 2 wks. in Ogden).

SUU Thunderbirds have a game @ PSU this Sat. then end with hosting NAU next Sat. (no sure championship yet).
