But many of those fans got in for free, so they weren't really there. At least that's the sentiment I got from many of you, who were previously bitching about WSU's free ticket "gimmick."

The way I see it, if the people didnt want to be at the game, they wouldnt have gone free tickets or not. Everybody that was at the game wanted to be there, and that works for me

Hawks, so you feel it is the best thing to do -with the #1 team in the country visiting and months to plan and market our team and the game- to get fans out was to give out thousands of free tickets? To me that told the community, season ticket holders, and our alumni how much they should value the program. That the program isn't worth buying a ticket to watch? Smart plan!!

Last I checked, football spends a lot of $$$, but doesn't really generate much revenue. I think athletics would be a little more concerned with how much they are spending in contrast to how much they are making. It is, afterall, a business. I wasn't mad about fans coming to the game. I was mad about how little was done to promote, market, and excite the community. Is anything being done for basketball now? Or will athletics be handing out free tickets to get people to the Dee too. Doesn't look like the best plan, especially when there is a marketing department that gets paid and have a hefty budget that isn't doing much other than handing out free tickets and devaluing our programs at the same time. Once again SMART!

My wife and I have gotten season tickets for more than 20 years now, and got in as students before that. With economic times still plenty tight, at least in our household, my wife suggested we not get them this year since "you can always find free ones." I don't like the idea of the hassle of trying to find them, having to buy them last minute, or not supporting athletics financially, even as little as our portion might be, so we should be getting them again in the coming weeks.

One evening last week I asked my wife what she knew about the home opener. She said, "only what you've talked about." She saw/heard/knew NOTHING about the quality of opponent coming to Ogden, except what her obsessed husband talked about. Call me a whiner, bitcher or whatever, but these two personal examples are the result of what is wrong with the marketing and business approach being taken by Weber State Athletics. This will not generate money; this will not build a strong fan base; and this will not provide the support, excitement, or atmosphere the players, coaches, and school is deserving of.

The only possible reason i can fathom why the Wasatch Front knew nothing about this game is that some lazy ass(es) figured they could be on the golf course instead of doing their job if they could make a deal with Coke to give away as many tickets as possible. I'll say it yet again; great business model!

As for the original topic of the post, those numbers look great for the BSC. I hope fans continue to show up, regardless of how or why. The big attendance for NDSU was awesome and very much added to one of the more enjoyable FB games in years.

Was really disappointed by the Sac St crowd Saturday. Thought they drew better than that. The place looked mostly empty. Maybe the 100 degree temps had something to do with it.
