Ugh.. so whats with everybody picking WSU so low? Behind NAU? CHILD PLEASE!
Time for WSU to fire up and kick some A$$. I would honestly have to put them 3-4

I kinda like where Weber was put. It gives the team that much more motivation to prove that they are being under-rated. Funniest thing about that write up was that it didn't mention Weber is bringing back 7 offensive starters, most important, their entire OL, counting the TE, and an explosive RB. Nobody in the Sky is realizing that last year was a rebuilding year for the Cats. Also, that Hoke proved his abilities in the time that he saw and will be able to replace Higgins. Walker, Johnson, Raught, and Kehano will keep the defense honest, since any of them can have a big game at WR. The only question mark that I can see on offense is the FB position.

Weber's defense brings back practically everyone from last years squad, and the line will be greatly improved with the return of the Beast and the additions of Myers and Washington.

We were ranked 4th when we won in 2008. NAU will be lucky to find itself out of the bottom 2.

I want to agree with you about NAU, but they always, whether its basketball or football, have question marks surrounding their team. Personally, I think they are in the midst of a rebuilding campaign, which will push them back a bit this year, but at the same time they are returning a number of talented and experienced players.

I am really surprised to see how high Sac St. is in these polls. They underachieve EVERY year. They always say they have a great team to start the year, but they always seem to finish near the bottom of the conference. :tothehand:

Yeah, but last year they had their first winning season in a long time. I do see your point though.

UNC is ranked low because we will be without our best player on offense. Jace is worth at least 2 games. :ohno: :ohno:

Bummer to hear about Jace. Nice thing though for you guys is that he will be back.

I found this on the Sac forum. Interesting. Not a very well done blog, but has a couple of interesting points. http://bilofootball.blogspot.com/2011/07/big-sky-2011-preview.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Evidently, nobody watched Weber's last few games when Hoke played a lot. Bolen is gone on an LDS mission and Weber has the best OL and most improved DL in the league. Gotta remember and give some serious love to the men in the trenches.

five, four, three, two, one....let the official shit talking of 2011 football season begin, its poll day!!!!!!!!!

i am ok with the polls mostly except nau. the media poll is how i would have picked the teams. i always like our team to be picked low in both sports. i dont like being picked first.

coaches poll i thought was a bit lame having us 6th considering how relevant we have been for 3 yrs in a row. maybe the other coaches just saw that basically our entire offense is now new with the exception of our legit offensive line that no team could get past last yr.

but nau ahead of us? yikes! no way.

and sac 4th and next best behind griz? are they for real? they had a good year last yr including beating us but another good year? last yr might have been the best or 2nd best season sac have ever had.

im gonna say it right now, i dont know much about our new team but please....we aint gonna lose to Sac at home!!!!

wsu has NEVER lost at home to sac EVER. Mac is 4-2 vs sac. the last sac game in ogden was like 49-10. hornets, good luck then! :thumb:

What did Weber lose from last year?

Higgins (second best quarterback in Weber State history, but as a senior he was average at best. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Higgins, but his senior year wasn't his best as a Wildcat.)

Hoke replaces Higgins, and from what I can tell, from Spring ball and his time last Fall, he looks like a very competant player. He is a dual threat QB, who has a lot of experience with the retunring receiver corp and has a high completion rate for a QB. Also, he is tough to bring down and knows when he should run. Weber should be able to run a number of option, screen, and shuffle pass plays as a way of keeping the defense honest.

WR:
Collins and Phillips...okay these two are going to be very difficult to replace, but both are replaceable. Erik Walker, Xavian Johnson, Bobby Parker, Shaydon Kehano, Lanny Papanikolas, Jordan Clemente and Kyle Shaney; not to mention Booker, MoiMoi, Hinds, or Tucket catching passes out of the backfield, should be enough to replace the departure of Collins and Phillips.

RB:
Bo Bolen, will be gone for two seasons before he returns from his mission, but while he is gone, I'm thinking Mac, who has proven his ability to find excellent RBs throughout his career will be able to find guys who will fill in nicely while Bolen is gone. Josh Booker (as long as he doesn't fumble, will be the go to guy, and has the potential to run for over 1000+ yards this season), Tanner Hinds, Hanoi MoiMoi, and Kris Parham each could put up some yards this season running behind a very strong, experienced, and capable offensive line. Don't forget about incoming true freshman Barrington Collins. He could make an immediate impact for the Cats.

On Defense the Cats lost Jordan Brown and Sedillo...Anthony Morales has his work cut out for him, but should quickly fill in the gap left by the departing Sedillo. Jordan Brown did a nice job while here in Ogden, but is replaceable at the Saftey position. Blake Keller, Jared Henry, and Tony Epperson each have a great chance to blossom and really anchor the defense playing safety.

How would it look if the Newbs were added? This is my opinion, but I think it would look like this
1. Eastern
2. State
3. UM
4. SAC
5. SUU
6. Weber
7. Poly
8. NAU
9. PSU
10. UC-Davis
11. UND
12. UNCO
13. ISU

The poll seems to typically reflect how the teams finished last season

Sac State did finished tied for 3rd with Montana last year at 5-3. The Hornets lost to Montana by 3 at UM, by 4 at EWU with 33 seconds left in the game and to MSU in overtime on the only missed field goal of the year before the monsoon game at UC Davis (a 1 point loss in a fumble fest) to end the year.

The Hornets are typically picked 6th or 7th so not sure where the thinking comes that Sac is always ranked higher.

The new field at WSU looks great.

with da Beast being back i am really looking forward to the suu game. suu's QB is going to be a payton candidate i hear.
He's already on the first 20 player watch list. He's a transfer that started at BYU. He's big, talented, and has a real shot at playing professionally. That SUU game might be the best home game of the year.

Yeah, Sac had some close losses last year. I was really bugged by the UM and MSU losses, both times I thought that Sac could pull off the W. You guys have UM at home right? If so, this might be the year for a W against the Grizz.

Weber has a couple of really big games this year. Weber has to put an end to their 2 game losing streak against MSU at home, and then gets to host an instate rivalry game against SUU. I'm really glad that Weber and SUU will be facing off against each other every year again. Great chance to really build a solid rivalry in the state of Utah.

3 huge home games really, sac, suu, msu. all could have big crowds since the sac game is the season opener with the new turf. and then add rival isu makes 4 of our 5 home games big games as well important games to win. the other game is nau on senior day. good home line up. nau could end up being very important so really every home game is big this yr.

No way NAU finishes ahead of Weber. I think NAU only wins 2 or 3 conference games (ISU and UNC in Flagstaff, and maybe PSU in Portland).

My predicted finish:

1. EWU 7-1 (losses - @ UM)
2. MSU 7-1 (@ EWU)
3. UM 6-2 (@ Sac St, @ MSU)
4. WSU 5-3 (@ EWU, @ UM, MSU)
5. Sac St 5-3 (@ WSU, @ MSU, EWU)
6. PSU 2-6 (MSU, @ UM, @ EWU, Sac St, @ UNC, WSU)
7. NAU 2-6 (@ PSU, EWU, @ MSU, UM, @ Sac St, @ WSU)
8. ISU 1-7 (@ NAU, PSU, UM, @ WSU, @ MSU, @ Sac St, EWU)
9. UNC 1-7 (@ ISU, WSU, @ UM, Sac St, EWU, MSU, @ NAU)
