This will be great exposure for the Vikings. I hope they perform well, BYU is a very good program.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — BYU will open the 2017 season hosting FCS Portland State.

The schools announced Monday that the two programs will meet for the first time on Aug. 26, the season opener for both teams.

The game gives the Cougars a 13-game slate. NCAA rules allow BYU to schedule a 13th game prior to the normal Week 1 due to a scheduled road game in Hawaii.

The Vikings went 3-8 in 2016 after advancing to the second round of the FCS playoffs in 2015.

The Cougars went 8-4 in the first season under coach Kalani Sitake and will face Wyoming in the Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 21.

Just a little more than three weeks away. Any ideas on a viewing party? Or is everyone going to be watching from the comfort of their couches. As I gave up my TV for a better computer, I'm up for heading somewhere to watch (pretty much have to).

2017 Blue google predictions

Game #1 - BYU's first opener at home since 2012 goes as planned - a tune up to work out some kinks and get players experience. BYU jumps out to a 38-3 halftime lead and moves it up to 48-3 with 10 minutes left in the third quarter. The defense looks pretty vanilla but is able to make several plays including a pick 6 and the Portland State qb is under contest pressure. The offense is balanced with BYU throwing and running for over 250 yards each. BYU 62, Portland State 10

I think we can do better than that.

Yeah... well, if you read the entire post, the BYU fan also predicts BYU as undefeated and #1 at the end of the year.

BYU is also going to replace Colorado in the Pac-12. :-|

BYU folks are notorious for being hyper-optimistic in their forecasts.

Still, they have reason to be hopeful about their future as the Big-12 may choose to tab Boise State and them to round out their conference numbers.

Another scouting report, from Adan Gibby of the Lawless Republic (BYU Fansided). I don't know anything about the writer so take it as you may. He thinks Gonzales and Kinsella are both back and he really likes Kraght.

We play at noon PDT and the Beavs play at 11:30am so there may be some conflict at various places around Portland. We're on ESPN however (Beavs are on FS1 I think), so we should have the bulk of TV's wherever one goes to watch, as long as it is not a Beaver bar.

Where are you going to be watching? :thumb:

Excellent read from Kristen Kerr of byucougars.com. Some inside information about BYU football and some quotes from BYU coaches and players. No locker room material, they do seem to be focused on PSU.

Preview and prediction from Pete Fiutak of College Football News.

He does make some good observations. I did not realize BYU has LSU, Utah and Wisconsin right after PSU. Makes sense to schedule someone with the capability to knock off the FBS before that stretch of games. I don't like the word "tuneup" in college football, but I see it here. One minor mistake is that he said BYU does not leave the state of Utah until October 14, but their LSU game is in Houston next week. Last I checked, Houston is not in the state of Utah.

Great piece by Ken Goe of OLive.

Goe got on board halfway through 2015, and stayed pretty much throughout 2016. Nice to see him come back in 2017. Excellent story by an excellent writer.
