Cal Poly 2017 season

Griz til I die

Active member
alright eagle nation, as I promised, I would move on to Cal Poly and go in alphabetical order. Cal Poly is coming off of one it's better seasons in a while, however this season their without QB Dano Graves. Last year they went 8-3 just to get bounced in their first playoff game (home against San Diego, really?). When I originally came up with the idea to do this, I didn't think Cal Poly would make the playoffs this year, but after looking at their schedule and arguably having the easiest conference schedule this year in the Big Sky, I changed my mind. Here's what their schedule looks like.
VS. Colgate-W
@ San Jose State-L
@ N. Iowa-L
VS. NAU-L
@ ISU-W
@ SUU-W
VS. Weber-W
@ UC Davis-W
VS. PSU-W
VS. Sac State-W
@UNC-W
My prediction: 8-3. Cal Poly gets knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. I'm almost terrified for next week because up next is you guys. I'll look at it and evaluate you guys over the next coming week. Until then, let's hear your thoughts on Cal Poly.

That is a joke of a schedule!
PSU will take them down as long as they are in the hunt for post season.

Yes Cal Poly does not play the top two Big Sky teams from 2016 (8-0 EWU and 8-0 UND), but they also do not play two of the bottom half teams (3-5 UM and 2-6 MSU).

What a politician! You knew exactly the right thing to say to get the Eagle fans on your side.

Congrats, SloStang, you have definitely won the post of the day award!

No matter what the year, the griz in Missoula are a tough team. All that said I have been one of Cal Poly's biggest sideline fans and would love to see them have a "complete" season, but another 8-0 conference tie makes the win seem a little lack luster.

:notworthy:

The last couple years it's been apparent that your schedule matters more to the committee than your conference standings. Sam Houston from last year is a great example. Undefeated and ended up with a 5 seed.

Regarding Cal Poly, my son is in his second year there as an engineering student, and they have a nice facility and game day experience. Stadium holds around 12,000 but night and day vs Roos. Alex Stanos, Cal Poly alum, donated $4M for the stadium.

CP should be at the same level as the Montana schools and EWU. Great school academically, in California to tap into players that aren't good enough for Pac12 and don't need to spend a ton of money recruiting since their a 3 hour drive from LA and the Bay area. One of their biggest negatives is they don't draw many students, but if they won 8-9 games every year that would change. More students attend Men's soccer than football.

UND dodged quality teams last year. What a break for Cal Poly indeed.

How did UND have a weak schedule? Other than E. Wash and ourselves, UND beat the 5 next best teams? I agree it gets tougher this year; obviously playing E. Wash, and going to Montana is a challenge whether they are having a up year or a down year. But its not like we only beat the bottom feeders.

Final Big Sky Standings
E. Wash (DNP)
North Dakota
Weber State (W)
Cal Poly (W)
Southern Utah (W)
Northern Colorado (W)
Northern Arizona (W)
Montana (DNP)
Montana St. (W)
Portland St. (DNP)
UC Davis. (DNP)
Sacramento St. (W)
Idaho St. (W)

Too bad, I like playing Cal-Poly. They always put a solid product on the field. Triple option is fun to watch if its your offense and it is working, but it is also fun to watch, if it is your defense and they know how to control it. I think Bubba has had his team pretty ready to sniff out the triple option the past due seasons.

Good luck this season, and we'll see ya next year.

If the schedule is a joke, thank the Big Sky. The three games that Cal Poly was responsible for scheduling are Colgate at home and San Jose State and Northern Iowa on the road.

SloStang, never mind the phannson88 spammer/troll...we are having a rash of uninvited phishing guests...bitches
