Cal Poly, UC Davis and SUU to the Big Sky?

I was reading on championshipsubdivision board that Cal Poly is suppose to make some sort of announcement about the future of their football program. A Cal Poly poster said the RUMOR is that Cal Poly and UC Davis would enter the Big Sky as football only teams and SUU would become a full member.

What say you?

Cal Davis could be the program that knocks Montana of their perch if they join the Big Sky. With 12 teams would they make 2 6 team divisions with a title game?

Hmm, I saw this too and I'm not sure what the addition of football only schools adds if that was to happen. I think with all the uncertantity these days it's probably a good move to add Southern Utah as insurance for all sports but if we add the 2 California schools just for football that doesn't help the other sports if a few teams leave for the WAC.

Although I'd love to see DU join without football but I think they will now finally get in the WAC with all the turmoil they have suffered.

I guess there's news conferences for Cal Poly and Big Sky today.

I think its the only option Cal Poly, UC Davis, and SUU has to keep their programs alive. North and South Dakota are bound to leave the Great West for something more geographically better for them. Who knows if the Wac is going to take some schools from the Big Sky. This might be an indication that they are, but we'll see.

Looks like it's official, Cal Poly and UC Davis joining BSC football.

Damn, that's a good move. Well done Big Sky. It's also good coverage in the unlikely event that the Montana's try and go to the BCS subdivision.

Fullerton said he would like this to be a step towards a 12 team 2 6 team divisions Big Sky conference, well we are at 11 now, SUU and North Dakota want in who gets the spot? I say SUU does.

That's great news for the conference! Good programs with nice football facilities. Welcome Cal Poly and UC Davis!!

Good point.

Well they are football only members, they will continue in the Big West for all other sports, so if 2 or more schools left for the WAC we'd be under the magic number of 8 for all others sports so I'm guessing Southern Utah is annouced tomorrow or at least in the next couple weeks. Then you have your 10 for all sports and more insurance against the WAC and 2 divisons of 12 for football which is more geographically compressed and less travel costs.

I wonder why they wouldn't join for the other sports? Is it baseball related?

big west is still a decent conf, comparable to the big sky. good baseball which we do not have but its $$. they call the big west the bus league because u can literally bus to every school. they are very close to each other geographically.

since the big west dropped football some yrs ago the big sky is a perfect fit for them. they would have joined yrs ago but we have been for all or nothing memberships. now that times have changed and have seen what is happening to the wac we need to be proactive after all there could be no big sky just as easily as no wac.

I wonder if the Great West is history, I know it houses other sports besides football. But, when you take a look at the schools involved, they're scattered around. You would think that those school would eventually find conferences closer to home.
