Cal Poly & UC Davis Join Big Sky

Honestly, I'd rather see Idaho or San Jose State than SUU. Of course, the WAC has to completely implode for that to happen. The instate rival I'd like to play annually is USU!! That would be, by far, the most beneficial situation for Weber.

Although the WAC is threatening the departing teams with litigation, for all intense purposes it has imploded with anyone remaining looking for another conference. LA Tech is doing everything it can to get out, and Utah State is still begging the MWC for consideration. Word on the street is that asst. coaches at certain schools have their resumes burning the Internet as we speak. Hard to coach, and harder to recruit when you don't even know if you're in a conference in less than 2 years.

I don't have any insider information, but I would bet you lunch that WSU would block SUU from getting into the Sky.
IF SUU gets into the Sky, they would then be in a stronger position to compete for recruits, media coverage (which is already meager), and other resources. If you keep them on the outside looking in, they remain weak and not a legitimate competitor.

byu and uu blackballed USU in getting into the WAC 40 years ago and in effect almost killed USU's football program. USU is still suffering from this exclusion and while not "nice", it is the way things are. 40 years ago, USU was the top dog in college football in the state. Look at how things have turned out since then.

College athletics is a zero sum game and I don't see how having SUU in the Sky benefits WSU in any way. We already have a close rival and travel partner in Idunno state. Why invite another mouth to feed so close to home? I say wait and see who drops out of the WAC or MWC and then make an invitation.

I say no to SUU in the Sky (out of pure self-interest in promoting WSU athletics).

Three times in the past Weber has voted in favor of inviting SUU. It's been the Montana schools that have blocked SUU in the past; citing travel costs.

Is anyone worried about the two divisions? I like the add of these two schools, but it could put Weber in a different division than the Montana schools. Not playing our decades-old rivals could hurt attendance. Let's hope for East and West divisions. That could keep Portland, Eastern, CP, NAU, SAC, UCD in one division, and the Remaining Big Sky charter members in the other division.
