Yeah, it hasn't looked too good in that regard. But, I do think that with two weeks off to prepare as well as maybe getting a couple guys healthy enough to play in that time (Renard?) that we may be able to at least slow them down enough to make them beat us through the air...............I hope. :?

Winning season - and...................recruiting bragging rights. There's a couple kids that are looking at both Eastern and Cal-Poly. A win down there would be good exposure for our program and help set the tone for next season.
Cal-Poly lost to UC Davis yesterday 24-17 @ Davis. Looks like they turned the ball over 3 times and that may have been the difference, as statistically both teams were fairly even. UC Davis was able to use a fairly balanced offensive attacked, passing for 203 yards and one TD, and rushing for 149 yards and two TD's. Cal-Poly was also pretty balanced offensively, rushing for 174 yards and passing for 160. As mentioned, they did throw a pick and it looks like they fumbled the ball a couple of times.
Cal-Poly scouting report:
Cal-Poly is having a similar season to Eastern in that both are talented teams that played a difficult schedule and have had some key injuries. They have respectable losses against San Diego State and Northern Illinois, and prior to losing to Davis yesterday, their only FCS loss was a 37-23 decision in Missoula on October 10th. The loss at Davis takes them out of playoff consideration, and they are not playing for the same thing EWU is - a winning season and respectability. Playing 2 x FBS schools and a Division II did not help them in that regard. Our only common opponents have been Montana and South Dakota. One thing that is a little alarming is the fact that they absolutely crushed USD....a team that we probably had our worst performance of the year against.
Sat, Sept 3 @ San Diego State L 49-21
Sat, Sept 10 @ Montana L 37-23
Sat, Sept 17 vs South Dakota State W 48-14
Sat, Sept 24 @ Northern Illinois L 47-30
Sat, Oct 8 vs Central Oklahoma W 44-25
Sat, Oct 15 vs Southern Utah W 31-27
Sat, Oct 22 @ North Dakota W 23-19
Sat, Oct 29 vs South Dakota W 27-24
Sat, Nov 5 @ UC Davis L 24-17
Offensively, they are sort of an option-based spread run-first type offense. Their QB is athletic.....and obviously we have been hurt this season by QB's that can make plays with their feet. Their backs and in particular their FB get a lot of carries off of the option-read. This looks to be another game that the defense is going to need to play disciplined and stick with their assignments. Unfortunately, that didn't happen against PSU and they really hurt us with the run. Hopefully the bye helps to prepare a little bit better while at the same time get more guys healthy so we can at least fill-out the travel roster for this game.
We won't stop the run, that much is a given. But, we have to find a way to limit their yards and make their QB beat us through the air. They have shown an ability to do that at times this season, and other times have struggles to find a consistent passing game. Corner play will be big. I really liked how our corners played early on in the season, especially against UW where they made a lot of tackles in run support. We will need that same kind of play next Saturday.
As always, we will be able to move the ball against this team. The biggest question mark, as it has been all season, is whether we will be able to find some balance. Find some balance, keep our defense off of the field, and we have a good shot at winning this game. That = running game. Talley, Forte, Brown, along with the O-Line need to make a statement in this game.
We are currently 2-2 against Cal-Poly, the first meeting coming in 1994, which was a 61-7 beat-down by the Eagles in Cheney. Most recent meeting was in 2005, a 35-40 loss in San Luis Obispo. They are coached by Tim Walsh, who if you remember spent a number of years at PSU.

They actually just got by South Dakota by 3 in San Luis Obispo, where South Dakota beat us I believe by 14 in SD.
