Cal Poly

Hats off to the Cal Poly coaches and players for bursting into the scene the past couple of weeks. I had completely written off Cal Poly after their debacle which put Ivory and other players off the team. It's the sign of a good coaching staff when they can overcome obstacles and steer their players in the right direction.

Chris Brown is an absolute genius in their offense. He's the perfect example of a player who can excel in a certain system, and fall on his face in another. He would be pretty bad if he was in a system that required him to put the ball in the air often. However, in Cal Poly's offensive scheme, he consistently makes great reads and is always a break away threat. He sells the fake dizzly well. I am thankful that we avoided Cal Poly this year. However, next year we are going to open our conference schedule against them and it will certainly be a challenge!

At this point, if I were on the playoff committee and three Big Sky teams got into the playoffs, I would give them priority in the following order.

1. Eastern Washington
2. Cal Poly
3. Montana State

Obviously anything can happen, but if playoffs were in one week, this is how I think it would be.

In a few years, if some things go Cal Poly's way(a few good recruits, favorable wins, a little bit of luck) I could foresee Cal Poly taking over this conference. Obviously I want EWU to stay on top, but I can't see into the future. If there were a team with upside in this conference(outside of EWU) I would say it is the Mustangs.

CP has been pretty good for a while now, probably going back to the late 90's. I think the only reason that they weren't a playoff caliber team on a consistent basis is due to them being stuck in the Great West for a while.

Walsh is a good coach and it's fun to watch the TO when it's working. That said, we shut that TO down the last 2 years. 8-)

EWU has one more year as king on paper. Cal Poly is on the huge up and up, and MSU has VA jr.

This year it appears that (on paper) NAU should get the auto bid from the big sky since their last 2 games are against bottom dwellers. Despite the autobid going their way, EWU will get the higher ranking.

Hard to believe we might get 4 teams again.

NAU
EWU
MSU
Cal Poly

Of course, MSU has crapped the bed in November before and Montana could take their spot. We don't want teams just in however, we need at least a playoff win out of everyone to help our conference out.

We have all kinds of FR and SO talent/depth at every position except OL, but well on the way to re-stocking with big bodies there with early commits. :? Guess I am not following your train of thought and unwilling to cede our conference standing.

I agree. I think we have several more years. What he most likely means is we have one more year with VA.

That said, Erik Meyer -> Matt Nichols -> BL Mitchell -> Vernon Adams.

Not cupboard is not bare.

I thought Richardson looked really good in garbage time as well. Who knows what things look line in two years, but he looks like he would be capable of competing for the starting position when VA is gone. Whoever it is, I think we will still be strong at that position.

During the scrimmage at the beginning of the year I was really high on true freshman Reilly Hennessey. He was very mobile, had a great arm, and made very good decisions. All while only being a true freshman! I think he will be in the mix for 2016.

I think Hennessy is the guy that is expected to take the mantle when Adams leaves in two years. Those things are never a certainty, but that is the plan as of now, I believe.

Here is a concern: If Cal Poly manages to get really good, could they end up cutting off our California pipeline?

I kind of doubt it. There's so many Division I players in California I'd think there'd be a million other factors that would come into play before something like that.

I think some of us just need to relax. Cal Poly has always been a tough team, even when they were in the Great West Conference. Let's not forget, they had a share of the Big Sky title just two years ago. They're tough this year, but is it really different than usual? Not really, IMO.

Another thing, Purkop is NOT VA Jr. He never will be. That doesn't mean he's not a good QB with the potential to be great, but Adams is special. I truly believe he's a top 5 QB in the nation, at all levels. We're very spoiled with VA right now and those types don't just grow on trees.

EWU has a sustained reputation now, and isn't just gonna drop off the table and lose recruits to Cal Poly or any other Big Sky school.

Nobody is panicking. Its called a discussion. Can we not talk positively about another school, or does it always have to be "Ewu rules the Big Sky and everyone else is irrelevant."

We won't be on top forever. Montana wasn't and NDSU will lose dominance. I think it's interesting to think about who is next.

Thank you RedZone Police for grounding me back in reality. But me saying what I believe, is still considered a discussion. I believe that EWU has established themselves as a top 3 team in the Big Sky year in, and year out. Will they win every year? No. Did I ever say "Ewu rules the Big Sky and everyone else is irrelevant?" No. I actually gave Cal Poly props for being a team that is usually solid and in the mix. I stick to my opinion, Prukop is no Adams, and never will be.

Tim Walsh is a good coach and their turn around has been impressive. I still think they lose this weekend in Pokey.

cal poly OR ISU will be in the playoffs this year depending on who wins this weekend.

Both. Book it. ISU will go into Bozeman, and win. EWU, Poly, and ISU will represent the Big Sky in the plauoffs. I just have a feeling NAU is going to lose one more bad game. MSU might get in if they beat UM but I don't think both Montana teams get in this year.

ISU can't lose a game or else they will not have enough wins to be eligible, too many D2 games (2)
