Cal Poly

looks like they beat up on ISU pretty bad yesterday but I'm not sure what can really be taken away from that game. They have a win over the grizz and losses to MSU and No Iowa. Triple option is always tough to prepare for but hopefully the bye has given us the time to practice some assignment football. you have to tackle all three guys when defending the TO.

We need to make a few big plays early and force them to play from behind. If we can get a nice 14+ point lead early, it will force them to make some plays through the air, which they haven't been great at. One big challenge for us will be to try to limit QB Brown, who makes a ton of plays with his feet. This game will be a good indicator of how we stack up at this point since there are a few common opponents.

So without relying too much on transitive properties...here's a few indicators:

-Put a scare into Arizona St., losing 35-21.
-Beat Montana on the road 20-19. (Sort of a low-scoring defensive game...TO's cost Montana).
-Lost the following weekend at home to UNI, 34-20. (UNI is a good team, be we only lost by 3 on the road).
-Lost on the road to MSU, 45-28. (Get an early lead and it's hard for them to catchup).
-Stomped Idaho St. on the road, 58-26. (Idaho St. looks bad...really bad).

EWU looks almost unstoppable on offense, but then seemed to struggle against a Sac State team that lost last night to a bad UNC team. What happened in that game? That is the only thing that gives me at least a glimmer of hope, though is is just a glimmer. Cal Poly's D look good against Montana and ASU, but bad the last three weeks. I am afraid what EWU's offense will do against them. On offense Cal Poly is tough to defend, but EWU having an extra week will help. I am hoping for a good game.

There's really no excuse for the performance against Sac, but we were missing quite a few starting offensive linemen in that game. I think it will take a while for the replacements to gel.

I really like Cal Poly, respect what they have done and do. For some odd reason, as bad as we are at stopping the spread option, we are very good at stopping the triple option, odd, but we have always done well against CP.

I think a week of rest and a home game should result in a pretty good win for Eastern. Cal Poly is always a respectable test but I think we pull away late...

EWU is the cream of the BSC. Happy to see how Cal Poly measures up.

Any TV for this one? Looking forward to Saturday.

Usually the home games that are not on ROOT Sports are televised by SWX and that is the feed that is streamed over Big Sky TV. I don't know how the switch to Eversport will effect that though.

Do you have any analysis on Cal Poly this season? I was able to watch some of your game against Montana but haven't seen any of the others.

Cal poly is down one if not two key key starters on D. What's their status, Stang fans?

With all of their bullets I don't think they struggle as bad against UNI and MSU as they did.

As for stopping our offense, we've managed to stop ourselves twice this year already.

Ranger is right about an early lead and stopping Brown.

Worst case 8-3, playoff berth and maybe a home game

Best case 9-2 BSC champs and a #4-6 seed with a home game or two.

Will all come down to Griz game in Nov.

I don't think we're missing any linemen for this game. Curtis was supposed to return from his foot injury and DeBord just missed time due to a concussion during the Sac State game.

In fact, while Curtis may be out if his injury is prolonged, not many players should be unavailable. Shaq Hill is gone for the season, and I have no idea what's up with Jalen Moore. Who else would still be out? I don't think we had anyone else out long-term.

Curtis won't be back until late October at the earliest. Spencer Blackburn, the backup Center is also out. Hennessey, Sblendo, and Bruce could be back for Cal Poly but will most likely require more time out. Jalen Moore has been out since Oregon and will probably miss a few more weeks with a high ankle sprain which is a tricky injury to get healed. I'm not totally sure about Raynes and Fettig but there are some other guys who were either injured in the last 2-3 games who have missed time or some others like Keonte White who haven't played at all this year. We've had quite a few injuries but when compared to the number of season ending type of ones we had at this point last year it's about the same.

Curtis was slated to miss 4 weeks. That doesn't mean he'd be fit, but if his recovery is on schedule, he should be back. Sblendorio has a separated shoulder, but I think he was practicing last week (someone can correct me if wrong). I have no idea on Hennessy or Bruce, but I think we've got guys in front of them who'd be starting regardless. Raynes was also practicing, I believe, and was slated to return.

I wasn't aware Keonte White was even out. What happened? I just sort of thought he'd been pushed down the depth chart.

Dont be quick to overlook NAU. They beat the Bobcats ýesterday and beat us last year, dangerous team.

I agree about NAU, but it's at home which I think gives a major advantage to us. Last year we lost down there in a heartbreaker and MSU also lost down there. The week before, NAU looked pretty bad in Missoula.

I hate domes. Hate them so much!

As far as starters, Cal Poly lost their best DB against ASU (Sr Chris Fletcher); he broke his leg and is out for the season. They played without starting FB Joe Protheroe against ISU who was out with a concussion but my guess is that he will play this Saturday.

Outside of that they have a few guys who have nagging issues typical of this time of year but should be good to go by game day. We may hear more by Tuesday/Wednesday.

What is wrong with Blackburn? Is it a serious concussion or something else? He's been out all season and most of late summer.

G&P,
Haven't seen you on the blog for some time, Codi said you was busy in school. Well glad to have you back. Reference Spencer Blackburn, I saw him on Wednesday Practice, with his right hand bandage up very heavy, didn't inquire his status. Jalen Moore had been practicing, don't know how his injury is healing. Heard Todd Raynes got the clearance to play this weekend. Clay DeBorg, Victor Gamboa will be ready for the Cal Polly Game, also Sam McPherson RB, will be ready. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: I think Nic Sblendorio should be ready, he said he will be ready. Spoke to Nic on Wednesday, told him not to rush coming back, he said the injury wasn't as bad. We will be ready for this game on both sides of the ball.    I think we will pack "Roos Field" again this weekend. Supposed to be in the 70s'. See you on Saturday. Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace
