Cal State Fullerton vs Portland State Thread

Viks fell to these guys last year, hopefully we can repay the favor. Starting guard Josh Akognon scored 44 points the other night, his matchup against Dominguez is quite intriguing, this should be a fun game.

Revenge, Vikings, revenge!

deltaforce posted this over on o-live, it's the game notes from Fullerton's website:

I took a glance at the Fullerton roster. They're as big as Portland, but all but one are new transfers and a few freshmen. The one is their guard, who looks to be very good. They lost last week to Texas State and won against Hawaii (who's 0-2 at this point). They're good as individuals but have yet to jell. They've committed a pile of fouls - hope our foul-shooting is on. They also turned the ball over quite a bit, an indication of a new team. All things considered, I think we ought to win this one - but it will be tight. It will be a face-off between Okagnon and Dominguez, team captain guards mano a mano.

I wouldn't say they're as big as Portland. They only have one contributor over 6'6"

Twqo 6' 7"s, two 6'8"s, and a 7'2"? Admittedly they're transfers or freshmen, but still......we'll see who plays.

Wow! After a game where one guy determined the outcome you have one like this. Kyle Coston really stepped up at the end, and Jamie Jones was absolutely magnificent throughout. The injury to Dominguez was obvious, as he lacked the fearlessness and touch that he has when healthy. It was nice that the others could pick up the slack for him.

Paul Guede appeared to have aggravated his broken foot. Have to hope that won't keep him out long. Wendell Wright filled in well for him on the defensive end. The Viks are really in need of another big body to help out with rebounding. If Visockis was eligible yesterday it wouldn't be soon enough.

Where are the season ticket holders? The GA side was packed and loud again, while the good seats were half empty.

This is a game were the Vikings are lucky not to have loss, they were down by 11 with 9 minutes to go, but the Viks never gave up on themselves and win by one over a very athletic and good CSF team. Guede will be out 8-10 weeks with a broken bone in his foot, according to Hewitt on the radio.

Wow. Nail biter.

Out shooting was quite off tonight. I really thought that this was going to go down as a loss when we were down by ten. Nelson put that dunk down and it seemed to give life to the team and the crowd. Coston and one of the Fullerton guys started getting pissy with each other and that sure fired Kyle up. Bam! Bam! Those two three balls by him were huge. Mara too.

Akognon for Fullerton sure likes to jack the ball up from anywhere on the court. :-|

Like you said WiViking, where are the reserved ticket holders? Either those season aren't sold, or people just aren't showing up. I suspect it's the prior. A packed Stott is a tough place to play and we need the place packed.

That ref crew seemed new. I hope I never see them again. That foul that wasn't called on Kyle at the end of the first half was amazingly bad. I really wish I could have gone back to the locker room with them and boo'd the refs while they sat there.

Mouse and his soon to be wife were there sitting courtside. He looked about as inspired as his offense. Zing!

Oh, and I have ten bucks that says the rim on the east end of the gym won't make it through the season. Is that the second time it's stuck after a dunk now?

Does anyone know what the extent of this is?

Are we looking at something like what happened to Hafford a couple of years back?

Guede seems to hit the boards better than Wright. However, did you guys see that dunk by Wright tonight? Wowza!

Great win for Viks. Hope the trend continues in Alaska. I saw Guedes was out again and heard rumors of surgery. That's to bad!!!! It's great to see different players starting to step it up and not always having to rely on Jeremiah. We need the other teams to fear more than one guy. I believe Donatas will be able to play in Alaska. He had to sit games for something a coach did at a prior school he played at. I think it's rotten how the NCAA penalizes the players for the coaches mistakes. Hope he has what we need. I did hear some other talk of Conrad coming back. I'm not sure how, or if it's ture, but I've seen him at the games and talking to the coaches. His high school coach has been on this site and might know whats going on. With Conrad and Donatas we would get a great influx of size on the team. Hope it all works out for the big men and the Viks. This could turn out to be a very interesting season.
