CALL BOVEE

This is getting pathetic!! I'm challenging all fans of Weber State to start calling Jerry Bovee or better yet, his boss Norm Tarbox, to inquire why there isn't any athletic marketing.

Good thing we all know that Saturday's game is the annual Black Out game. Thumbs up to athletics to telling its fans today! Agreed Cat, the athletic department is an embarrassment. Time for change!

Norm Tarbox is part of the problem, not the solution. As long as his wife gets to sing the national anthem a few times a year, he is happy.

It won't do any good to JUST call. The only thing that will carry any weight is If you tell them you WILL NO LONGER DONATE or buy Season tickets. And then they will act like they care what you have to say. :twocents:

You won't have to buy season tickets because for the best team to come to Stewart Stadium Weber State University posted on Facebook today that the whole game is free Saturday. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? This is how we have resorted to getting ppl to the game. Pathetic..

Well according to weberstatesports.com there are "only" 7,348 tickets left for the football game, so for a Stadium that holds 17,500, 10,152 tickets have been sold.

The game is now free? What about the people who have already purchased tickets?

This is called, "Throwing up the White Flag."

I didn't buy season tickets last season because they give away so many free tickets that I felt like I was wasting my money. I went to every game last season and didn't buy a single ticket. But I purchased them this season as a way of showing support for the new staff. Now it's feeling like a waste of money again.

Maybe the "WILL NO LONGER DONATE" will get their attention but my experience/observation with "(no longer) buy Season tickets" means nothing to them. Maybe its because they base their business numbers on free butts in seats.

Weber State's athletic business model is poor, at best, and incompetent at worst. My neighbor, an Aggie alum and fan, is President of a large, high-dollar business headquartered in SLC. Several years back and after already having done business with the Aggies, and Pukes(sorry, I just can't help it), he tried to do similar things with Weber. He said it was really difficult to work with them, almost to the point of being bizarre. After working HIS tail off to get it to happen, he worked out a deal for one FB & BB season but was not willing to extend it more years even though he would have liked to because they were just too difficult and different to work with. I have a hard time imagining this being an isolated instance when considering their marketing track record, pricing structure, and apathetic response to my concerns and complaints.

10,152 have been sold? Or, could it be a large portion of that 10,152 has been counted as being within the GA area of which thousands of free tickets (via vouchers) are being distributed by word of mouth (the best I can tell.) Anyway, that's how I was offered as many as I felt I could give away to people who would use them-- I took about 12, two-ticket vouchers and am struggling to fill MY quota.

Yup just saw the post on facebook

"The Wildcats are back! The WSU football program home opener is this Saturday at 6 p.m. Tickets are FREE! Let's pack the house and help black out the Bison"

Not sure, just looked at how many were still available in the different sections

Yeah, it is definitely a different world up there. It is really interesting how athletics doesn't really like to play nice. I really like Jerry and aspects of athletics but for the most part I really don't like how some operations are run and how people in general are treated. With that being said, I'm glad there will be butts in the seats. Lets hope the students show up.

Free tickets?

And why did I buy season tickets?

Kill me, Weber. You're making it harder and harder for me to WANT to go to games.

I would assume that WSU thought process is to hand out free tickets to the first game and hopefully some of those folks come back to the rest of the home games and they'll be willing to pay for their ticket... I'm not too worried about it, we have our season tickets and are trying to get others that normally don't come to give it a try. Hopefully it pays off and we can get better crowds for the other home games.

But wouldnt you want to try and sell as many tickets as possible to arguably the biggest game at home in a long time? New coach, new team, #1 team in FCS. To other schools this spells money maker. Weber just hands out 50,000 free tickets and crosses their fingers hoping people will show up and a few will attend other games. What kind of strategy is that?? :wall:

A rare big non-BSC opponent at home...a new era...you would think that would draw a big crowd out...not so. The base of faithful fans (those who will pay for season/individual game tickets & show up no matter what other factors) at Weber State is relatively small. They did the massive free tickets for McBride's first home game (and it worked with 17K there) & it is necessary again for this new Coach Hill era to draw a good crowd. Otherwise, a pathetic 6-7K show up (because of other factors: it's on TV; BYU's big game is on TV around the same time; Utah/USU have home games the same day; lots of excuses to not go to Stewart Stadium because they have to pay for tickets). Get the drift? Nothing new, it's been this way for years, in football & basketball attendance. :twocents:

If Weber can win or have a good, close game this might work. But if they're blown out 55-3 then it will just make people wait until the next free ticket gimmick.

How is the department going to follow up on all of the free tickets? Will they actually have schedules at the game? Some type of promotional that will inform the folks that there are other games scheduled this year? Something to tell the fans that this isn't the only football game this season?

You're right...it's those "casual" fans that the promotions/marketing people need to work hard on getting back as regulars in the seats...then maybe they might be able to make money on games like this, instead of bleeding it away with incentives.
