Cam Michael's Status

I heard Cam got another concussion this preseason and has been sidelined for the time being. I want to say this is 3 or 4 concussions for him....any news on his health? Or does anyone know how many concussions you can get before they cut you off?

I know one thing, we are going to need him this year. We're young with him, really young without him. Thanks! Go Bears!

Rumor has it that he will be fitted for a concussion headband and wear it during play. Not 100% sure that is the gospel, but that is the word on the street... As far as I am hearing, he won't miss any time on the court once cleared from this last concussion caused by an elbow during practice.

Cam is obviously out at the moment. Does anyone know if this is as a result of another concussion or lingering affects from the preseason one?

I know I'm going to sound like a know it all but I continue to wonder what the heck goes on at the Bears practices. Thinking back over the past few years our top players consistantly get injured at practices. I'm not taking about rolled ankles I'm talking concussions backs and shoulders. These injuries are from going way to hard at practice and the lack of commons sense that I believe is encouraged by Hill. Kids and coaches need to understand that there is a time and place for all out war and it's not at practice.

An update to my own question. After a little research it looks like as I had wondered Cam got hurt again at practice the week before the Omaha game. That make three kids in three years Tate once, Tevin once and Cam at least 3 time now in three years. I get it practice hard but practice smart.....

Amen bearuncle! Really is too bad that he isnt able to be out there for the non-conference games. Being a Colorado kid, Im sure he would have loved to be a part of that CSU win the other night. I can remember a handful of injuries over the past few years that happened in practice and its honestly embarrassing if you ask me. What other school do you hear about key players, starters, captains, etc getting hurt in practice. And its year after year! It really is a shame. Would love to be a fly on the wall in one of those practices.

I also heard from a little birdie that the chances of Cam returning before conference play are slim to none, and there's a chance he wont return at all this season. Apparently this is his 5th or 6th concussion and after a certain amount they just cut you off forever. What a shame that would be if he never gets to play again because of a concussion he got at practice! Wishing for the best for you Cam! Any update on his status would be great! Any insiders out there?

I heard the same. It sounds like he really struggled after his most recent concussion. Apparently he was having trouble articulating simple thoughts and everyday actions so they told him to just go home to Loveland and not worry about basketball for a few weeks. Ive been told that the decision to come back and play is up to him and his family. Obviously there is a risk of getting another concussion which would likely end his career, but the it sounds like the chances of him returning to the lineup this season are slim to none. Im not sure what the redshirt requirements are but if he wanted to he could probably get this year to count as a redshirt and have two more on the court. But if not, he'd have one more year to play for the Bears. That's if he wants to get back out there. Best wishes Cam! Sure seems like a great kid!

Looks like it's official, Cam is done for his career. The basketball is unfortunate, the potential long term consequences of concussions are scary. I sure hope he doesn't have lasting sequela from his concussions. Good luck Cam Michaels!!!!
