can someone please explain

not sure which is worse, the article or the three stooges on the video. Nice to see Burton landed a job.

there are soooooo many reasons for why Baldwin isn't allowing Vern to use the football facilities, and none of them have anything to do with class. Beau has to look out for the program as a whole, not just one player. Having Vern around would be a distraction. the best thing in this situation is a clean break. all these stupid articles make it sound like Va is being banned from the EWU campus when in truth he just can't use football facilities. there are other facilities on campus that he can use, to include the rec center and phase. as has been mentioned, there's also liability issues as Vern is no longer a member of the football program. I think Beau is just being lambasted for the oregon comments from the espn interview and none of this really has anything to do with va.

Okay, I'll bite.

Ask yourselves why the players have their own special facilities and why do only they get to use them? is it because they are some kind of royalty, more entitled to everything than normal people? No, it's because they provide a service for the universities, and in exchange, they get tuition and training in the facilities dedicated to that purpose. In this case, Adams more than fulfilled his end of that agreement by playing well during the football season. Now, Coach Baldwin is threatening to rescind the University's end of the agreement based solely on a decision Adams made about what he will be doing NEXT year. It is dishonorable and petty. There are no secret playbooks and strategies being circulated in the spring. If Adams was preparing for the NFL, there wouldn't be a problem using the facilities. Coach Baldwin is acting childish and misusing his authority. I'm actually kind of curious if this is grounds for a lawsuit, although I doubt it would ever come to that. Baldwin is directly inhibiting Adams' ability to progress athletically, despite the fact that Vernon executed his responsibilities in good faith. I would be curious how the relationship between student-athlete and university is defined legally. Obviously, he shouldn't be allowed to train with the team, but use of the facilities during the spring months seems to me to be part of the contract that a university agrees to when a student-athlete signs up.

Baldwin appears to have backtracked his statements somewhat on Portland radio today. Not sure what that means regarding Adams' use of team facilities (he still seemed firm on the 'opposing quarterback training with us' narrative), but he is clearly in damage control mode.

Okay but take the transfer to Oregon out of the equation. Vernon, for all intents and purposes, quit the team. No other player who has quit the program at Eastern, or probably Oregon for that matter, is granted permission to use football facilities or participate in team activities. He is more than welcome to use the regural intramural facilities as the regular EWU student that he now is.

Take your highlighter yellow tinted glasses of and it makes sense.

You asked why some have an issue with Baldwin's decision, so I told you. Some students go to school to train for a career in sports. The agreement is that the player puts his body on the line all season and draws crowds of people to pay to watch games, and in exchange, he gets an education and training in preparation for the next level of his craft. To let a player render service and put butts in the seats, and then to renege on the deal as soon as the season is over because you don't like what he plans to do next year is not in keeping with that contract.
As a Washington taxpayer, I expect our universities to train kids to be successful in whatever their field of study is, not to hold grudges and be controlling if they don't like where someone is going to do their post-grad work next year. It would have been a very easy thing to let Adams continue working out in the player facilities and leave with nothing but good feelings for his alma mater. Instead, we went down this road, because the coach is not a big enough person to figure out how to make accommodations for a guy who helped get him a nice contract.

Thanks for the opinion. However, Vernon knew about all of this before he made his decision, and is still on great terms with the coaching staff. But speculation and opinion make for good fan debate.

One of the worst articles ever written! Pissed me off because he is seeing him
as a pro and not looking at the real issue and that is the rule itself....

I know it can be confusing to some, but football is not a field of study it is an extracurricular activity :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

His field of study is Recreation Management. He isn't barred from taking classes. Hell, his scholarship money to pay for those classes hasn't been revoked. Adams willingly revoked his privileges as an EWU Football player when he asked for his release. If you can't understand that, you're a goddamned moron. Why you're still here and trying to argue any of this is beyond me. Get a life dude. Or better yet, an education.

VA can use the workout equipment in the Rec Center like any other University student. He just cannot use the workout equipment room reserved for football players. It is not like he has nowhere to workout. I have in the past seen their equipment for the players and I think he will do fine using the general students' facilities. He still has access to fitness equipment/gym.

To All,
I tried to remain out of the deal with the Vernon, I had to get involved when some have gone to name calling and the profanity towards each other. I just hate how it has become name calling for some. We are all grown men, lets act like it. Vernon choose to leave, he is gone, and that is it. Good luck to him. W/O thinking I am a Brain, I figured the day I watched the Ill. State Game, Vernon might do the same thing he did to Portland State. He had committed to PSU, changed his mind and signed with EWU, he also had his PSU Jersey under another shirt when he signed with EWU. This information came from the TV Announcers. Don't get me wrong, those were his decisions to make, he made them, now lets move on. The Eagles will survive w/o Vernon. We now have 5 Quarter Backs on the team, including the Walk-on from Bellingham, WA. All of the Players I have spoken to, are ready to move on w/o Vernon, I am also, and hope the rest of you are. BTW I saw where Coach of UO signed a 5 years extension worth $17 Million Bucks, 3.5 per month. :o :o :o :o ohno: :ohno: :ohno: . Spring Ball is coming soon. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Thank you Vic. As a fan I'm disappointed that Vernon chose to leave the program, but I don't think any less of him for it. It hurts to not have him here for his Senior year, but this situation isn't all negative for Eastern. We should be glad that we develop players in our own program that a school like Oregon is looking at to replace their Heisman Trophy winner. That says a lot about what our program is doing in Cheney. All Eastern fans should be grateful for Vernon's contributions to the program and wish him all the best. I don't know why some of you want to burn bridges. Vernon will go down as one of the top 5 players in school history even without playing his Senior season.

They shouldn't allow it strictly because of animosity between other players. Are they still good friends? I'm sure they are but Adams was undoubtedly part of a decision made by some players to attend. He is an great QB that they thought would lead them to the Natty. Now he's up and left them for greener pastures. I know I would have the attitude of "if you can play at Oregon then you can work out like every other Oregon player, not in our team room."

Good point. I'm sure there are some thoughts like this floating around the locker room.

Tonight at the Men BB Game, Vernon came to the game with Shaq Hill, another person, and I was surprised to see how the other Players attending the game ignored him :( :( :( . He went up and sat with the ones he came with. I felt bad for VA, because they all used to be so happy when each other walks into the games Again, he chose to leave, now he must live with his decision. Good Luck VA. Should you graduate like you are supposed to, we have a date Sept 5th. We are coming after you. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Saw where one of our fans made a statement we will not beat Oregon. Like I have said many times, "DO NOT UNDERESTERMATE THE EAGLES", they will surprise you, ask Oregon State, UW, WSU. Jordan West, Conner Richardson, Reilly Hennessey will be in a fight for the Starting Quarterback job. Believe me it is going to be great to see how all three turns out. Coach Baldwin, and Zach Hill, will get all ready once Spring practice commence. Have great weekend, what is left of it. I think right now Jordan West is lead due to what he did last year, and he will even get better. Vic Wallace

Vic, it's unfortunate that things have to end this way for VA and his legacy at EWU, but I would be lying if I said I didn't understand why many of our current players are acting this way toward VA. To them, he bagged out on them and what they all felt was unfinished business. Right or wrong, loyalty was tossed out the window for "the big time." I think Vernon had a false reality of how this was all going to play out, but I have a feeling the next 3-4 months are going to prove very difficult for the young man.

For anyone who thinks the Eags can just be dismissed on Sept 5th as an unworthy opponent, you're sadly mistaken. This EWU team will likely play with the biggest chip on their shoulder that they've ever had and they have absolutely nothing to lose while doing it.

Go Eags!

My hope is that win or lose on the 5th once we reach the 6th we put it in our rear view mirror...hope it isnt going to be a lets put all our eggs in one basket type of game. I am sure it wont because the guys are warrios, but there is always a change. One thing to keep in mind I w pop uld not want to be coaching against Baldwin with 6 months to prepare for the game...EWU will be ready!
Oh yah...I would be giving him the cold shoulder too if I was on the team.

There's going to be some of that kind of stuff, it's just a really strange situation. I can understand how some of the guys on the team may feel like "you're either all in, or you're not". That said, I would still think that the majority of his teammates still support his decision and are hoping for the best for him.
