The Bald-Faced Truth ™ hits KXL 750-AM
Posted by jcanzano August 06, 2007 09:59AM
I'll make my final appearance on 1080-AM "The Fan" today at 5:25 p.m.
Tune in if you'd like.
"The Bald-Faced Truth ™ sportstalk show with John Canzano" will debut on KXL 750-AM in September, weeknights from 6-8 p.m. It will also be carried on KXL's affiliates, statewide.
Hold up.
I know what you're thinking...
"He's a sellout..."
"The BFT is going soft..."
"Canzano suddenly thinks the Vulcans are cool..."
KXL is owned by Paul Allen. He also owns the Trail Blazers. Which tells me that the Blazers must have big-time confidence in their product because I've been granted 100-percent editorial control, guaranteeing you that you're going to get me as unfiltered and authentic on the radio as I am in print.
I would not have agreed to do this show under any other circumstance. And KXL's management wouldn't have it any other way, either. And frankly, I happen to think you're smart and know a fraud when you hear one, so we won't bs each other.
As a listener of the The Bald-Faced Truthyou'll get rare insight, strong opinions, and an unfiltered behind-the-scenes look at my Oregonian column.
I'm going to bring you with me wherever the reporting takes me. It's unprecedented for a flagship station to give an outspoken critic such widespread autonomy. You should tune in sometime for that reason alone.
Just saw the quote from Blazers first lieutenant, Mike Golub, who said:
"John Canzano is a lightning-rod for controversy and nobody knows that better than we do. With that being said, we feel confident about the direction of our organization and the new chapter of the team. Portland sports fans are passionate about the Trail Blazers and passionate about John's opinions. ... While we may not always agree with what John might say, this new partnership will add an unprecedented level of transparency."
Love that last word.... transparency.
We'll talk Blazers, Ducks, Beavers,
Vikings
and local high schools and small colleges, among other things. We'll laugh. We'll debate. We'll take lots of your phone calls. In the end, you and I are going to think deep, like Thoreau wrote, and remind each other to suck the marrow of life.
I won't filter, I won't lower my expectations, I won't stop telling you about inspiring stories when I find them, and I'm sure there will be days the people we're talking about on the show wished KXL had never done this.
