Cat fight

Statistically nothing really jumps out as one-sided maybe with the exception of time of possession and the game had that kind of a look and feel too. With a tough Weber D and the Bobs defensively sound too, it's surprising there were no turnovers in this game and even with some wind and rain.

There were several times-- especially early on-- Weber's D was running around and looked a little confused before the snap. They were worked on the touchdown going into halftime. I hope they are able to use the bye week to get healthy of course but to get smarter defensively, strengthen the run game (besides Cantwell), and hopefully come at SUU with a faster start. With Weber's defensive strength, they are awfully tough if they can score first and force their opponent to have to take more risk.

Watched the game at Steiney's. We got jobbed at the end of the half. I think that one of the refs blew his whistle because he thought the play was stopped. Cantwell stayed on his feet and made it into the end zone. but they called it back due to the inadvertent whistle. We settled for a FG.

We won, but we struggled to contain their running QB all game long. That guy is a stud. MSU made darn sure that they had safety coverage 100% of the time on Rasheed. What won the game for us was our running attack and tight end play.

I thought it would be a hard fought game and it was. MSU will win a lot more this season. :coffee:

Montana state is young and at times it showed. However they are very talented and are building a solid program. As for Weber, we a currently reaping the benefits of what Coach Hill and his staff and players have accomplished. Hopefully it continues anf we can challenge for the Big Sky championship. Lets go into our bye, get rested and healthy and then take it to the Thunderchickens in two weeks

My take from this game is that we made some correctable errors and gave up some big plays. Fortunately, we were able to overcome our errors and win anyway. We will use this as a learning opportunity and grow with it. IMHO, the errors we made are easily correctable.

Our bye week comes at a great time. We need to get everyone healthy, get things cleaned up, and get ready for an SUU team that will come to town fired up to play us.

Does anyone know how they were able to get a long TD with 20 seconds left in the half? I would think a safety would be back in that situation. With that said, I love the play calling and guts the coaches have shown!

MSU ran consecutive fly routes up the left sideline, the 2nd one coming without huddle (I believe), lined up quickly and went again. The first long pass was broken up but on the second one Weber wasn't completely set defensively and there appeared to be some confusion or just missed coverage in the secondary.

Also, they switched receivers from what I could tell, which should have been flagged for an illegal substitution. I don't blame the refs for keeping it close, but that was a blatant miss on the stripes.

Yes, the commentators mentioned there probably should have been a flag there.

I'm still calling :willybs: on the Cantwell TD reviewed into a FG. If you think forward progress was stopped, which I think was questionable when you have to go to slowmo replay to make a judgement call to overturn the call on the field, blow your damn whistle! There was another play a few minutes later where Cantwell's pass was knocked down by a lineman, the ball bounces a couple of times, is picked up by a MSU player who starts running several steps, at which point the Weber players start going after him, and then the whistle is blown for an incomplete pass. Weber should have played to the whistle on that one but, hell, you never know if the whistle is going to be blown or if the refs are going to have you assume when the play is dead. Those two plays really tick me off because you are always risking player injury during the game so if the play is dead, blow your damn whistle!

The officiating did not change the outcome of that game, it rarely does any game. However, that was certainly not a resume' builder for that crew. They probably spent too much time in the Bozeman bars the night before. Get them some coffee and let them rest up. They will probably do better next week.

When they sub like that the officials are required to give the defense time to sub as well or time to get set, which they didn't. The DBs were still running back from the previous play. In the post game interview, Coach Hill wasn't happy with the officials on that play.

The best part about our win Saturday was that the touchdown taken away from us, and the lack of a call on that last second touchdown didnt cost us the game. Weber won despite both of those horrible calls

Good game WSU, I will be cheering for you the rest of the season. Just as I thought our our young MSU team is still a year away from challenging for the top of the BSC. I hope your team stays healthy, the only game I see being contested on your schedule is in Cheney. I would love to see the Wildcats make a playoff run this year, I think you are built for it.

Yes, I thought there were some bad calls both ways but have come to expect that with the BSC refs, they are just not very good at what they do.

Thanks cats2506, Your team has a lot of talent and looks very similar to what Weber started out like in Hill's first two years. It wont be much longer till the Bobcats are Challenging for the top spot again. As Weber fans we just hope that Weber can sustain being among the top of the Big Sky and not fall out like Weber has had a tendency of doing. The Bobcats will win some games this year, here's hoping we can both beat the Eagles in Cheney :thumb:

Yes the reffing was bad, but what else can we expect from Big Sky refs?

A lot of Weber's past issues with consistency stem from coaching. Under Hill our program has consistently improved each year, which is awesome. However, with success comes change, and that means we will be lucky if Hill is around Ogden for another season. I'm sure BYU and USU are both keeping an eye on Hill. Also, a bunch of our position coaches might be gone after this season. Being at the top comes with consequences.

Coach Hill already turned Utah down once, lets hope he does it again.

Weber needs to be willing to pay their coaches more money especially if they sustain success and improve year to year like the Wildcats are doing. Give Hill some incentive to stay.

Another one was when we got called for hitting their QB out of bounds. They showed the replay a couple of times and it showed that he was clearly inbounds. He hesitated on the sideline and our defender pushed him out. He put on a good show and went flying into the bench area. It was sort of like a guy trying to get a charging call in basketball. He put on a show and got the call, but it should have been a no call. Those things are frustrating when they happen. However, refs are human and sometimes get caught up emotionally in a play and make a hasty call. Seasoned officials would have waited, played it over in their heads, and not been so quick to throw a flag. Like I said, those officials didn't impact the outcome of the game. They may have made it closer than it really was, but that is only important if they were wagering on the point spread. :coffee:

You've gotta admit that Chris Murray is one heck of QB. MSU fans better hope he doesn't graduate early and head to a PAC-12. Or that he doesn't elected to transfer and sit out a year so that he can play two. Without Murray, MSU would have been sunk on a number of drives. He kept the bobs moving forward and competing. Heck of a football player.

He played last year as a 17 yr old true freshman, so I doubt he will graduate early, I don't think he will take the sit out year route either. Seems like a pretty good guy according to my son who is also a sophomore at MSU and has met him a couple of times.

I agree. That kid is special. He is a drive extender and really fun to watch. Without him, MSU is not even in that game. With him, they kept it close. His passing needs improvement and that is probably why he pulls it down to run so quickly. He is so fast that he doesn't seem to get hit hard when he does run. If he improves his passing over the next two years, he has NFL potential. :thumb:
