Is there anywhere to tailgate there, or at least drink a beer and eat a sandwich?
This was sent in an email early this week:

1. Tailgating is only allowed in Lot 56, The Aggie Pride Festival (which is sold out for parking), and Lot 30. However, there is no alcohol allowed in Lot 30. Your fans will not be able to have alcoholic beverages unless they park in public parking and walk over to our North field area where there is public seating (The Aggie Pride Festival). They may however grill with a propane grill in Lot 30. We are just beginning to introduce tailgating to our campus (I know we are far behind!) so there aren't many options as of yet.

Basically the answer is no. Not allowing folks to congregate among fellow fans with alcoholic beverages is a huge fail. WTF is wrong with these people?!?

EPIC FAIL!

Thanks SD

Recap

It was a close game that was heavily impacted by weather and the Hornets came out on the short end of the stick. The Hornets jumped out to an early 13 point lead but then the Hornets fumbled away the early momentum and it was a dog fight until the end. In a game that saw a delay at halftime due to lightning and torrential downpours, the final outcome was a close 17-16 game that went down to the final minute of play.

The Hornets were able to control the clock with their ground game but continually shot themselves in the foot whether it was a drive stalling penalty or a turnover. It was a field position game in the second half with both sides unable to move the ball much. Hats off to the ags as they were able to take advantage of the turnovers and make the most of their situations.

There is plenty of blame to go around in this one, whether it be a bad/dropped toss to a WR (was Sperbeck going for a WR reverse pass on that Lane fumble), a RB fumble, a missed PAT, a botched hold on a FG, a terrible decision to field a punt inside the 10 in a windy and rainy game, or a second half game plan that did not stretch or challenge the defense at all, there really isn’t one thing to pin this loss on other than the fact that the more disciplined team won the game. Again, hats off to ucd and until next time, best of luck.

Having said that, there are plenty of positives for this Hornet program to build off of. Sperbeck and the coaches need to turn their attention to the offseason and land some recruits that will put this program into the next level. They will also need to focus on where to improve from this season and prepare the players so they will be ready to execute when the 2011 season kicks off.

GO HORNETS!!!

Hornets should be favorites. Weather might be a factor, but would probably favor the better running Hornets. But, think about the 2000 monsoon game when the Roberts/Ray team could only muster 13 points and lost to an underdog Aggie team. It is a rivalry game, so odds things can happen. Two years ago, I thought Davis had the better team, but Sac outplayed them, outhustled them, and made the big plays when it mattered. Last year, I thought the teams were very equal, and that showed in the closeness of the game. Davis needs some guys to step up big, particularly in the run offense and defense. A special team miscue could turn the tide.

its a shame the weather is going to be crummy, and will keep some folks at home.

i was wrong...this was 10 times worse than 2000! i left when the lightening hit; it was miserable out there. i told my son it would probably end 16-14 because i didn't see either team being able to move the ball. hell, even after the muffed punt, points weren't a gimmee...that was as scary a kick as i have seen. blocked punt leading to a TD; muffed punt leading to a FG. rarely do you see a team call two timeouts at the end of the first quarter to force a team to punt into the wind; but, it worked for Davis because they scored a key TD on that exchange.

give the kids on both sides credit for playing their guts out in some horrible conditions.

From what I heard during the short period I listened to the static on 1240 on the way to Sirens Bunco, the lightning was particularly bad at halftime, thus extending it. Why was the game not just called at that point?

Of course, that would have changed the outcome, so I'm a little biased in asking for that....

i don't think i've ever heard of a game called by lightening; often heard of postponements. had it not subsided, i'm not sure what they would have done. kthk announced a 30-minute postponement that turned into 45 minutes.

when we fled the stadium, we were at russell (by the grad) when a spectacular blast hit...and....the street lights, stop lights and all the lights in the shopping center went down. i was shocked when i saw the stadium lights on.

an aside : Dan Dibley from KNBR was the sideline reporter. last time he did a game at Davis, was the Montana game when the lights went out and we had a 30 minute delay. last night, he topped that!

i left just after as they apparently asked fans to leave the stadium for their safety.

The lightning storm took about 30 minutes to move over and away from the stadium, so it wasn't an issue. That is why they suspended the game (actually extended the halftime) to wait for that to occur. There was no lightning near the field in the second half. Just one hell of a lot of rain.

Davis scored all 17 points on our first three turnovers. That was the game ... period. We take care of the ball we win, but when we give them the ball inside our 10 yard line twice, we give them a short field. The stats are ridiculous in our favor...we held them to SIX first downs...and 20 yards rushing. We had the ball for 37 minutes compared to their 22 minutes, but the turnovers were the kisses of death.

I'm excited already about next year. Look at all the juniors and underclassmen we have on the roster. Plus we had some incredible recruits redshirt who should add more depth, not to mention we will have Reed and Hendershott back. With Hilliard, Fleming, Deadder, Zack Nash, Deionte Gordon and others, we will be serious contenders.

We lost four games by 11 points. This was 1999 all over again when we lost four games by 13 points. I'm proud of the direction we are headed and think the players, coaches and staff did a great job this year. This year will make us stronger and ready for a run for the BSC championship in 2011. GO HORNETS!!!!!!!!!!!!
